I also went with the really fine mesh. I did four layers (from inside-out, fine mesh, filter, fine mesh, and another filter) instead of the suggested two layers, which might be an overkill

The rubber weather stripping is that long rubber strips on the top of your engine that prevents rain from coming in (I usually put it back on when it rains

And make sure you bleed the system really well or air pockets will cause your engine to overheat.
