2002 SS Camaro vs. C55

Silly question that I think I know the answer to, but I'd rather ask than blow my money.

My "acquaintance" is 100% sure that he can beat my 2005 C55 with his totally stock 2002 SS Camaro in a 1/4 mile. I'm 99.9% sure it'd be a give me, but I just wanted to make sure. He originally wanted to wager $100 but now it's $40. I should take him up on this one right?

Motortrend's times also tend to be the fastest out of the 3 main car mags.

It'll be close but you should take him. With only a tune, and heavier 19" wheels I ran a 13.1, couple tenths of a second faster than what a stock ss can do. Make sure you practice the launch and just leave it in D(S)

If it were a buddy of mine, we would just run them for the fun of it. I don't get why money has to be involved.

Hence my particular wording of "acquaintance."

Or pizza and beer, that way you both win no matter who loses.

given its a ls1 in there, i think you only have to worry if he's modded. Cams, intake and exhaust the ls1 makes some pretty good power for relatively cheap.

Just race him around a corner..lol.

Haha, about 5 years ago one of my buddies back home used to have a Z28 that ran a high 12 and I used to putt putt around in a modded Jetta 1.8T. Whenever we'd drag I'd get stomped, but whenever we'd take a corner...man oh man that car was terrible. My Jetta was no slouch, though, with the suspension I had on it. Which brings me to my next point. Last night a modded Acura RSX wanted to pick a fight. Long story short, I was only about half throttle and spanked him. He did a ricer flyby and I just laughed. Anyway, I'm not proud of this and it is to be expected but it was comical nonetheless.

Thanks for the info...what was most interesting about that was that you could buy the top of the line for only $30,000 in '01. Man, times have changed!

yeah those gen camaros are total junk around the corner. The new one is much better in the handling department even though its heavier. Yeah the rsx is a waste of gas, unless he's turboed. Then you have to worry depending on how much boost there running. rsx at 6psi usually put down around 300whp.

Get promoted or deploy where you get good per diem. Or get out and secure lucrative contracting jobs while you still can...

Well, I just went TDY at Ft. Knox for 3.5 months and earned nearly $4,500 in per diem but that all went to a $4,800 engagement ring. I'm about to pick-up flight pay in a couple of months which will be nice, but I just got my C55 so I guess I can just dream for a little while

If its auto, then definately you'll get him. I think, if both unmodded...and he has a manual, then its a driver's race. If you only go to 0-80, its all you. Over that, the LS1 3rd gear pull if pretty strong, so I beleive you'll have (and should have) a lead on him if you intend to go up over 100 (this is for a manual trans).

Well, I mean TDY overseas. TDY in Korea or Japan was bank. I was deployed twice to the Philippines when I was active duty and got good per diem there for both rotations...iraq's combat pay sucked.

I'll tell you what though, my car was the only c55 at ft. lewis when I picked it up...even in 1st group. Some of our guys got the 150k kicker to reenlist and one of our dudes picked up a GT3 and daily drives a cayman lol. So I'm sure though that the c55 is pretty sleeper and hard to find where you're at.

Dayum, I wish I could get a bonus like that! I have yet to see another Mercedes at Rucker, much less an AMG. LOL

The only thing I've really seen worth while so far is an E46 M3 and a 2005 STi.
