C55 mods
Finally able to afford some mods for my C55. Being that i haven't mastered what mods could an cant work for the car. I am looking for some input and suggestions and how much it would coast. The car right now is 100% stock

The main modifications are Headers, Pulleys (crank or underdrive accessory), High Flow Cats (Primary and/or secondary), ECU upgrade, K&N Air filters, driveline mass reduction, etc ...
There are other mods as well but these are the main ones that will give you the best bang per buck and will be a good starting point.
Hope that helps

There are ECU tunes for C55, I never said the gains are huge, but you should pick up a realistic 10-12HP on dyno at best regardless of brand or what tuners claim. There's just not much extra power to pickup over stock software on any NA M113 55 AMG, especially since our ECUs are so adaptive. For this reason, AMS rarely recommends it until at least stage 4 or higher. Modding the M113 is all about hardware... software is the very last piece of the puzzle.
Yes ECU upgrade will make more than any airbox upgrade (considering no airboxes really make any power at all once air filter gains are isolated out of the total gains). AMG intake systems are perfect from the factory (other than air filters). No need to touch them unless you want engine-bay eye candy.

+100 ... 55 NA tuning is all about exhaust tuning, that's where 80+% of the power gains are to be had. Headers + 2nd cats combo are the best place to start. Our headers are now $999 included w/ stage 2 or $1099 on their own. Cats will cost you another $170, so for under $1300 you can have both headers & high flow 2nd cats and it will totally transform the way the car behaves & sounds.
Hope that helps.

Keep in mind... AMS even sells ECU upgrades and I'm admitting it doesn't do much. In fact, AMS discourages ECU upgrades as much as possible until every other last modification has been done. Once you start getting up to higher performance packages (stage 4 or higher) the gains become even less simply due to law of diminishing returns. On stage 4 or higher usually the gains are 10HP at crank at most (8whp/tq). The Stock ECU does such a great job of squeezing out every last HP via adaptation that once you put in the new software the only real gains come from timing advance and very little gains are achieved otherwise.
For this reason, AMS always recommends to start with the most crucial mods in this order:
1. Headers
2. Pulley
3. High flow 2nd cats
4. ECU upgrade
5. K&N filters (you can do this first if you want, but it produces only a few HP, sounds much better though)
5.5L NA AMGs are all about hardware tuning. Upgrade all the hardware ... the software will take care of itself. I could easy BS everyone and "claim" the ECU upgrade makes 25HP (or some other ridiculous claim), but AMS is not this type of company. We simply value our customers too much in order to deceive them. Its better to give performance enthusiasts realistic real world gains to keep their expectations in line with reality than vice versa.
With that said, Upgrading drive-line components for further mass reduction is also highly recommended (floating brake rotors can shave up to 40lbs on the car, and on the rear axles alone they can provide healthy dyno gains @ the wheels thereby reducing overall drivetrain power loss and improving overall efficiency).
Hope that helps
