R&D #7 - POWERCHIPS software

Here is before and after with POWERCHIPS software. 12HP and 25 ft.lbs. of TQ. This is on CA 91 gas, as you can see from the TQ curve at 4400 rpm DME pulls out timing as we reach the limits of 91 CA gas.

With couple of gallons of 104 UL, giving us 93 total, we made as much as 325HP at the top. This file will be used for states where 93 is available.

I am very impressed with POWERCHIPS abilities, we basically created a new file from scratch. US C32 software is significantly more complex than European or Australian versions. We were able to emulate on the dyno and locate timing, fueling and TQ limiting maps. It pretty much took all day on Wednesday to get the file broken down.

Next step will be driving around and playing with part throttle and throttle by wire maps. Which will be done next week.

We are going to spend couple of weeks of further testing on the track and on the street. Final version will be available mid-May.

Graph above is our C32 before and after our upgrades. 48HP and 50 ft.lbs. of TQ. on CA cars and 57HP and 50 ft.lbs. on 93 octane cars.
ODPS, headers and software.

NEXT: Intake manifold and off-road H-pipe. I should have the results shortly.

Thank you for listening.

Hehe this is the first time I have seen actual Dyno plots deliver on promises made by the tuner ! EXCELLENT WORK !

Vadim, could you be more specific for my personal case. Will the software that Evosport/Powerchips will produce be compatible for my car ? Reason I am asking is because you mention that the stock US software seems to be different from the European version.

My second questions is >
Did you manage to squeese out the extra HP due to fine tuning of the stock software alone or is it an effort to fine tune the stock software to take into account the ODPS + headers kit ??
Thx for you answer.
:p :p

98 octane DIn=93 octane US standards ?

Thanks!

Bart, actually it iwll be easier to make power on your car, since you are in Europe. Powerchips has files for Euro DMEs, we will just have to modified them with the same data as US.

This program is setup to work with ODPS and headers. We will have different versions tuned to a particular level of parts. In other words, Stage I, Stage II and so on.

98 Euro is 93 US.

Thanks for the results, however, I'm not sold yet. Those results are not with the C32 headers right? Considering most C32 drivers don't have different headers, these numbers don't apply to us. Can you post results with stock C32 and powerchip?

I do not know if we are going to offer software with stock cars. The idea, like I said before, is to create tuned, proven Power Packages.

In many years of tuning cars I very rarely find significant software gains on stock cars. In most cases when airflow is improved, i.e. more boost, better exhaust - the software tuning can offer significant gains, like in this case.

Pricing is not yet finalized, but it will be significantly less than the $7,000 necessary to get the same gains as some of the other companies who require more intrusive modifications such as cams. Imagine how much power we'll have once we go into the engine!

Jerry, send me an email, I wanted to finish our conversation from before.

Does the software you guys tested increase the rev limiter? Even raising it by 200 RPMs would result in significantly higher top speeds, provided VMAX has been taken care of. An ungoverned SLK32 should be redline limited to about 165mph in 5th gear with the stock 245/40/17s...

Marc: Yes, we can remove top speed limiter. Stock it is suppose to be 155 mph. Mine for some reason did not cut in until 162 mph. C32 is gear limited to 178 mph with stock tires. Putting a set of 19's will put you over 180mph. I believe C32 and SLK32 share the same drivetrain gear ratios, so they should be the same.

Pocholin: Thanks! More stuff is on the way.

Nice numbers Vadim!

however,
RENNtech Kit 2 (ECU Performance Upgrade +
& Larger Crankshaft Pulley Kit) is doing 45hp and 60 Lbs.-Ft. for $ 3,495 ...
the question rises now guys, How much will be the EVO kit (headers, Pulleys, and ECU) will cost?

All of our dyno numbers are quoted at the rear wheel, so a 50hp gain would be equal to over 60 crank hp. Our ODPS gained 30hp at the wheels, 38 at the crank WITHOUT any ECU modification. So for $1,699, you can get almost the same gains as the above without including software! Our pulley kit currently outperforms all others on the market. Each kit raises the boost by 4psi. The difference with our pulley kit is that we:

1. Make them all lighter, and thus easier on the engine to spin=more power.
2. Our ODPS does not overdrive the engine's accessories like the others which simply change the size of the crank pulley by adding a ring. Thus, the accessories should have a longer lifespan.
3. We include an intercooler reservoir upgrade that adds 6 liters of cooling capacity to the stock system.

Also, these numbers are on 91 octane. Customers with access to better gas will get better results. Take Bverotti for example, who has 98 octane. With only our ODPS and airfilters, has has seen 45hp gained at the wheels.

Pricing will be finalized shortly, but as I mentioned earlier, it will be significantly cheaper than what other companies charge to achieve these gains...and we don't have to go into the engine to get it!

Thanks,
Ben

When you say yours didn't cut in until 162mph what were you using to measure it? The stock speedometer? Couldn't it be off? I know the speedo on my car shows 109-110mph at the dragstrip when I'm crossing the finish. And since I trap at 109-110 (went a little over 110 in the cold weather Friday Night), it seems to be pretty accurate; however, in 5th gear @ 82-83mph I'm showing 3k rpms on the tach. That's why I would think mine would be redline limited to ~165mph. Aren't upshifts made @ 6000rpms? I know I've seen somewhere on this forum that it's around 6200rpms, but on my SLK32 all shifts are right at 6krpms...

Vadim,
Could it be your wheels? Even a slightly larger rolling circumference would cause a higher top speed (if my logic is correct). I'm guessing the computer cuts in judging by RPM and not by what has been indicated by the speedo. My basis for the argument? Most cars seem to cut in at 157.

What do you think?

I had some room last week in Germany to go flat out on the highway. In Europe the MB cars are supposed to be limited to 250 kmh. On the stock speedometer I was doing 272 kmh !
As for my car is totally stock except for the Evosport ODPS kit and sport filters.

Ben
We use delimit chip instead , does that reporgram only on that little chip ? If so, we can send it to tunner & keep driving the car.

List our delimit test for reference
Stock everything : 257 km/hr on speedo
Delimit : 298 km/hr on speedo by 265/35-18 tires(R)
Calibrate the tire size, ....... 305 km/hr

Shine,

Our ECU upgrade will require the ECU to be sent to us for the software to be downloaded onto it. If requested, we can also use the vmax delimiter.

Impressive gains over stock indeed! Are the wavy lines on the graph attributed to these vehicles being DBW (drive by wire)?

Any chance of tuning the ECU without being overly aggresive enough to allow for knock retard?
