Wow, it seems like very '09, maybe '10, and up I see has AMG wheels. I guess it similar to my '07 C230 that got the spoiler, but I just hate to see them use the AMG stuff on non-AMG cars myself.

Very true. I know they offer them as a package, not sure why? Seems kind of pointless to put "AMG" on the wheels if they can be put on a non-AMG vehicle from the factory?

I thought they came free with the sports package, but I looked on MBUSA.com and it seems to be a 1k option.

C350, E350/550, E350/550 coupes, S550, etc all have AMG wheels standard.

and this topic is ... SIGH...

the AMG wheels on actual AMG models are never the same as the AMG optional wheels.

do you not agree that it's a bit ridiculous to even put AMG on the wheels then? Why not just make them "sport" wheels, and leave AMG off of them. I can't tell you how many people I know that think they have an AMG because their wheels say so

no i don't. AMG offers aftermarket support just like Brabus, Carlsson, and Lorinser. buyers in the USA just don't get use to it because they aren't offer the same way as the rest of the world.

a full AMG Evolution option was once available for the W203 with suspension, brakes, wheels, exhaust, and bodykit except the engine.

They use the name to make more money when selling the extra packages (at the expense of watering down the name). Audi and BMW now do the same things with the "S-line" and "M package"

it's been going on forever...not just now.

the 2000 e46 328Ci i had already came with wheels that were designed by the M gmbh. actually even way back in the 80's they already had the M packaged 3/5/6/7 etc.

I mean really. Why is this all of a sudden concern or issue?

Coming from audi though, S-line and the S-series are VERY different. You cannot, for example, get an A4 with S4 brakes, wheels, grill, seats, steering wheel, etc. The S-line is simply a sport package, that the S4 shares certain parts with. The parts that make the S-series cars stand out are NOT available on the A-series. This is a very important difference I think.

do you get the brakes, seats, grille, steering wheels on non-AMGs? no. do S-line parts available if people actually want to change them? yes. just like AMG parts.

B8 S-line basically has the same exact bodykit as the B8 S4 minus the quad tips and badge. C63 actually has different front facial and sideskirt where the regular W204 gets a different AMG bodykit.

i really don't see what is a big deal. i mean if you really want to make a big deal out of it then isn't it true that every one that runs replica AMG wheels are watering down the brand image? because they're not authentic and yet people still put MB star logo on the centercaps.

Another example is the Corvette "Grand Sport". Looks like a Z06 except for the engine.

The rule must be then: "If the wheels say it, it must be true!!"

Frank, its just pi**es those off who have the real thing. I see an ML320 who put dual exhaust on it and has AMG plastered all over the truck. I just want to puke, BUT we've all been around this block before. We know who the poseurs are and who are the real "smooth operators!!" Heck, look at my sig pict, it even says AMG on semi-trucks

This. I know it happens, and I've seen it time and time again. My point with audi is that they at least don't call it "S4". I guess its a different idea though, seeing how AMG is an in-house tuning, and "S" is just a different car..

To properly compare AMG/non-amg to audi though I guess you'd have to go with the RS4, and you cannot get an A4 with any RS4 parts.. at all.

Oh well.. It's just a shame

S4/6/8 are already by Quattro gmbh as is the RS. look at the RS more like the Black Series for Audi. except Audi was never about raw power like AMG does.

The "Quattro" badges on Audi's simply denote the AWD system they come equipped with. You find that on every Audi that has AWD.

And the RS was always made as the competition for the M3/C55/63 etc. The S4 was and is made as a competition to the 335i. It's much easier to line up Audi's line with BMW's though, as mercedes has no mid-range performance C-class.

FrankW - I thought the "regular" S models were not built by quattro GmbH - just the "RS" models and R8?

FrankW's not asking "what does the quattro badge on an Audi mean?" I'd expect he's aware of what you posted.
