I'm completely beside myself

my car is pretty much totaled, nthe right rear a arm ripped right out of the frame and the rear say bar is bent, damper blew and the rim is cracked, the whole lip of it. idk even know what to say, this feels unreal like nothing i have ever experianced. i have never felt so much passion for something as much as my baby. until insureance sees it tomorrow i wont know for sure, but everyone says she will be totaled. you all have been very helpfull and great advice givers and i thank all of you for that.

Yikes. But you are still here to tell us about it which is the important thing.
We know the story is tragic but what are the sad details?

i was having some fun killing some time and i decided to drift a little, the glare from the sun got in my eyes when i approched the turn and i didnt see that the curb was so close and i slid right into it. the rim cracked, the control arm ripped with out of the subframe and the damper got messed up, the sway link or whatever bent the control arm dragged and got destroyed. idk how much it will be to get it repaired but i know if it cost more than 20% of the cars value then they will total it. i mean its bad. it looks like as if a small dynomite went off in that area and blew everything apart. couldnt it be fixed though by replacing the subframe, the control arm and everything else that broke?

I think everyone has at least one moment of "automotive indiscression" that they wish they could have to do over again.

Everyone has done some thing stupid before, but as long as you are ok and no one else got hurt, it's a lesson learned and I'm sure it won't happen again. Hopefully insurance will take care of you. Good Luck.

Where'd you that 20% figure? There's no way that's right. I've curbed a car or two in my day, life is too valuable to let stuff like this worry you...in a couple months this will be well behind you.

If you have good insurance a total loss isn't bad especially in a Mercedes. When my Sportcoupe was totaled by some idiot not paying attention the loss amount was $12.4k and I bought it for $7,200 dollars. I had put 40k miles on it as well. You should get back more than you payed plus what you put into the car. It doesn't sound like a total loss to me from your description. Either way you're safe, and it will be sorted out. Drifting is fun stuff, but very dangerous. You can practice over, and over with good luck to eventually run into a bad drift destroying the car you love so much...

if the cost of repair exceeds 80% then you will prolly be totalled. less than that and you should be able to get it fixed. frame damage is were the $$$ will kill you

a car.
Reading this made me instantly think of all the stupid things I've done in my cars and reminded me how thankful I am no one got hurt and no cars were wrecked. I'm sorry to hear about the accident, it's always harder when you have no one to blame for the damage as well. You'll move on, find another car to love and look back at this as just another event in what everyone hopes to be a long time passion for driving.

Yup, just a card that life deals you. Play the card, so it's time to think of what you'll get next.

A C32 replacement?
A C55 upgrade?
An E55/SL55 big upgrade?
A C63 monster upgrade?

you obviously do not realize that if insurance will take care of it, that means you are paying for his screw-up. You, me, and every other Tom, Dick, and Harry that is insured. I for one hope his insurance does not cover it, because I don't want to pay for some tool's drifting accident.

Sorry that's so cold, but life is not always warm and fuzzy.

Nah, he's already paid for it and/or will continue to do so. Those actuaries know exactly what they are doing.

Also, this isn't fraud...big difference. Yes self inflicted, but I know we all have a hundred stories where accidents were caused by poor judgement (texting, california stops, poor brake maintenance, taking stupid little dogs for a ride, dumb asshes driving on tires they know are too bald, dumb old bi*ches navigating left turns when "the sun was in there eyes and I just couldn't see" (I have a father with no leg now on that one), teenagers..nuff said...., putting on makeup, how many wrecks are caused by folks straining necks to stare at a chicks nice assh?...for that matter how many wrecks straining to see a nice car...LOL. Man I could keep going. Judgement and actuaries....we all pay. I remember about 18 years ago I rear ended someone because I was all distraught over some chick. That was self inflicted too one could say...I mean there is a car, not a small object right in front of me...not a small thing to miss.

I guess we can all just continue to strive to be perfect drivers like you. At least his wasn't fraud, we (you, me, Tom, Dick, and Harry) all pay millions of $ every year for that and there is no remorse, no pain over damaging a vehicle that is loved, just some scum bag that should have his nuts ripped off with vise grips, set on fire and put out with a steam roller.

Sorry that's so cold, but life is not always warm and fuzzy.

You mean "Jakes" car is now history?? Ahh, the memories of driving what was the fastest C32 on Dragtimes??? The car literally went south in more ways than one.

Regardless of fault, and this forum should be a "no-judgment zone", sorry to see the car go!! Glad you're not hurt!! Geez guys, accidents happen, not like it was an "intentional." Go easy on him. There, but by the grace of god, go YOU!!

Time for a C55 now!!!

yes, that's correct, they know exactly how to spread the premiums around so that good drivers pay more than they receive in order to help cover the loses caused by bad drivers (drifting? into a curb? wtf?) that receive more than they've paid.
