I want to get mine replaced because it's sandblasted and crappy looking in the direct sunlight. It is the same as other C-Classes. I plan on using Mercedes glass.

If its cracked by a rock or road debris your insurance should cover it for free if you have comprehensive insurance.

I am in the process of getting my wife's SLK windshield replaced due to a rock chip. I told them I wanted to use the MB dealer, they said ok but that they wouldn't pay for the full price of the factory glass. I would have to come up with $350. if I do aftermarket they will replace. When we lived in VA they had to use Factory parts if requested and available but not here in FL.

G Diamler sticker just gets in the way of tint. they had to take the sticker off when I had my entire windshield tinted.

FREE?? Depends on state and also deductible??

For example, in IL, your deductible for comprehensive covers the glass BUT if its a $500 deductible, then you pay the first $500. In Florida, windshield glass claims are all 0 deductible.

So what's up with using factory glass. Mine was replaced 6 years ago with aftermarket glass and I doubt anyone could tell the difference.

I guess it depends on your policy, but I've always had $0 deductible for comprehensive claims. Comes in very handy. When I had my M3 someone vandalized the front bumper when i left it parked on the street at a friends' house, got a repainted bumper for $0.

Doesn't depend on the policy or the carrier, it depends entirely on the state and the comprehensive deductible YOU select. ALL policies cover the glass IF and only if you carry comprehensive for breakage etc. However in Florida for some glass breakage claims the deductible is waived. As the Florida insurance regulator, FL Department of Financial Services, notes on their site, your insurance company will not assess your deductible to replace your front windshield. Florida law requires this waiver in order to encourage drivers to replace cracked or broken windshields immediately to avoid a major driving hazard. Florida has the windshield deductible waiver, Illinois does NOT!!

The real variable is the state where the incident occurs. For example, in Florida, if your comprehensive deductible is $500 BUT you have a cracked windshield, the deductible for that windshield claim will be $0 despite your $500 comprehensive deductible. This is NOT true for glass other than windshield in FL. However, in IL, if your comprehensive deductible is $500 and you have a windshield claim, you pay the first $500 of the claim (there is no waiving of the comprehensive deductible for glass in IL by statute.

2002 C32 1987 190E 2.3 334K miles and going
Safelite quoted $250.00. My deductible is $500.00 if I choose to go with my carrier.
No brainer here.

Go with PPG glass. I replaced my C43 OE (Sekurit) pitted windshield with PPG glass which resisted all rock chips and pits, unlike OE (Sekurit) glass. Seems like newer AMG's come with PPG glass OE, like my C55. In NY it cost me $10 extra per 6 mths for $0 deductible glass coverage.

+1, comp is the relatively "cheaper" of the two coverages, comprehensive and collision, PLUS comp covers a whole lot more than collision. Comp: Fire, theft, glass, trees falling, hail, flying object, missiles, flood, animals (deer, raccoon hits etc)

Collision: Pretty self explanatory (when two objects try to occupy the same space at the same time!!)

we cant tint front winshields in texas.

so for mercedes ppg glass its around $350 or so? i went aftermarket on my 4runner's driver side window and its every so slightly off and has windnoise...doubt that would happen on a front winshield but still.

dealer doesnt do it so they gave me a 3rd party guy who wants $540....

Technically you can't below the AS1 line in FL either. but If you do a light enough tint, I have 35% on covering the windshield, it isn't noticeable.

I have 15% on sides and back. I saw a C6 Z06 the other day that must have had 5% all around and 15% on the windshield.... it was sweet looking!.

I heard safelite was reasonable and did a very good job in Houston. I have yet to do it, but I really would like to get mine replaced due to a huge crack on the passenger side.

Had my w/s replaced through Progressive, paid my $100 deductible and got a genuine MB replacement. Originally they told me it would cost $300+ but agent did some research and informed me that I was eligible for genuine replacement. I think the model year, miles go into the formula. Safelite came out and replaced in my driveway. 3 months later got another chip and they came out and filled in in...

I have geico and had a big chip in the windshield from a huge rock... i had comprehensive coverage, paid $100 deductible, and insisted to the Geico adjuster that I needed an OEM windshield - they ordered it from a local dealer, SafeLite came and replaced it within 2-3 days. My suggestion - comp's may not look different, but if you can get OEM for the same deductible, it's a no brainer

Question on 2005 C55 AMG windshield replacement.

Is there a way to tell if you have Green Glass or the Blue Glass for the front windshield? My current windshield says PPG in the drivers corner and has the faded tint above the AS1 line built into the glass.

The dealership has two different windshields listed for this vehicle when they look it up by VIN and I'm trying to figure out the correct one to order to replace what I have currently.

203 670 3501 - Blue Glass
203 670 3401 - Green Glass

Any one know which of the two is the one with the faded tint above the AS1 line?

The blue one is the correct one for your car. The PPG glass is already a replacement windscreen. Sport models (which the C55 is) get the blue glass and the luxury models get the untinted glass (which has a green look to it).

Yes I know the blue glass is for the sport models and that the C55 should get the blue glass, however the dealership has 2 different parts codes that are unique to the C55 for windshield glass in the notes. The blue glass they stock the green glass they do not, but can order it.

I want to replace what is existing on the car (green or blue) because of the tint above the AS1 line, it helps cut the glare in AZ. I'm just trying to figure out which glass is on the car. Im thinking its the Green glass.

I know in my prior 2003 C230 the glass had a blue hue and no tint at the top AS1 line. Can anyone take some pics like i did to compare?

See Attachements - I took pictures of the AS1 line tint at the top of the window and the PPG info on the windshield.

Florida and Georgia is free if you have comprehensive insurance.
I dont know why but they will replace it for free.
It might not be OEM, or the sport glass but it will be for free

My insurance company didnt replace mine with a OEM, but i didnt argue
They here to make money right?
