Your next AMG, an Infiniti??

Word on MBworld is that AMG will be providing new engines to Infiniti for their "high performance line" of cars, called IPL (Infiniti Performance Line). Perhaps the VQ V-6 of the Maxima and G35/G37 is at the end of its performance rope?? I surely hope not as this will just "water down" the AMG brand, BUT reports have them sharing the 3.5 V-6 TT and perhaps the 6.2 litre V-8 with Infiniti???

What do you all think. Badge engineering??

Ive read reports where Nissan's parent company has signed an agreement with MB to borrow technology. But why would they need to borrow an engine from a AMG when they already make a Godzilla (GT-R) that puts out as much power and whose drivetrain fits under the hood of a G or M Series? It doesn't make sense to me.

I've already decided that unless the new TT motor makes its way into the W212 E Class, the E Cinco Cinco below will be my last AMG.

From Autoblog:

"The door metaphorically adjoining the offices of Msr. Ghosn and Dr. Zetsche swings both ways. The two executives – heads of Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance respectively – signed a deal that would see the two auto groups collaborating on future products. So far all the reports appear to be benefiting Nissan – including the latest on AMG engines in Infiniti Performance Line models – but the latest indicate a measure of reciprocation.

According to the wire coming in from across the pond, the next generation of Mercedes-Benz A- and B-Class hatchbacks will be powered by Renault-Nissan's new 128-hp 1.6-liter turbodiesel four. Beyond that, the two auto groups will reportedly begin developing a new range of small engines, similar to the engine program between BMW and PSA Peugeot-Citroën.

Their displacements will, according to reports, range from 1.2 liters to 1.8, cylinder counts from three to four and coming in both gasoline and diesel formats, to be used in a broad range of small cars bearing Mercedes, Smart, Nissan and Renault badges."

i personaly think this is a dumb move on MB-AMG because it will in fact like above "water down" AMG, plus those cars a japanese, not german! IMO i dont like jap cars other than a select few and to put a german engine into a japanese car to me is borderline dumb...

Hasn’t the AMG brand been watered down enough already?

Its prodigious initial purchaser depreciation is rivaled by few marques. That’s certainly little concern to Dr. Zetsche, of course, as his customers are dealerships. Perhaps he’s forgotten the ill-fated marriage with Chrysler earlier this decade. There’s nothing prohibiting them from sharing their respective engineering brain trusts, continuously evolving technologies or manufacturing capabilities - under license.
Happens all the time in this business.

Carlos Ghosn and Renault will likely make out rather well should this merger come to pass. That he sent several eminently qualified design and technically-savvy professionals downstream when he pulled up Nissan’s stakes from Southern California’s former North American headquarters (~ten miles from here) remains a thorn in my hide.
That annoying Infinity exhaust note needs some refining too.

First ever comeuppance delivered by my lowly C was on a G37. His and other unsuspecting victims’ bewilderment is still a source of smug pleasure.

Nissan has come a long way in the past ten years but to take an AMG engine and put it in a Japanese car? I just don't understand why? The first Nissan sentra SE-R 6.3 and im out... Although it sure would be funny to see that murder a FWD car.

Are you guys are forgetting that AMG has done this before. They use to do work on Mitsubishis. Anyone up for driving a Galant AMG

I dont think it discredited the brand then(although they were hideous cars) and I dont see this hurting it either.

who cares really?

It's not like the japanese cars will have the AMG emblem on the car.

It won't effect anything with the benzes.

I guess my moms Eagle Talon is the family's first AMG

However this is before MB completed its purchase of AMG
This was in 1990 when they were independent

+1 BUT dont make it right!!

+1, neighbor has a Pearl White 2010 G37 Xs model and he's felt the wrath of my AMG power several times leaving the development despite his best efforts. Car is no slug, BUT its no AMG. I do like the fact that it has AWD for Chicago winters!!

I'd be pretty pissed if AMG engines start showing up in Nissans. WTF are they thinking?

The partnership makes sense. MB doesn't have the economies of scale that Renault-Nissan does. There probably part sharing and R & D sharing to keep costs down. The nissan v6 is fine but they don't have a high performance V8 that can compete against a c63, m3, isf, gs-f.

I'm sure nissan's main interest is the 6.2L v8. Maybe offer the v6 tt for as a upper trim 335i competitor. But the vq37 is still putting down good numbers for a NA engine.

the 5.5 TT will make it into the 212. It's already in the new CLS I saw at the LA Autoshow earlier.
