my warranty ends in 3 days, putting my car in stealership in 2 days. need help.

my CPO warranty and all warranties therefore are ending on the 21st of december. yes, tuesday. i have not had any problems with this car (knock on wood) but i can never be too sure that none will come up as i embark on my journey of no warranty. I am for sure having them replace my motor mounts, fix my butt part of the seat warmer, and my weather stripping around my passenger side rear door is sticking out a little bit for about 3 inches.

i have been following this forum for a while now and have noticed that the most common problems in the c55 is A) the seat warmer B) the motor mounts. should i check anything else and bring it to the attention of my service advisor that day? it's my last shot. thanks!

dog bone that allows you to tilt the steering wheel up and down.

See if they can replace your bushings as well.

Check your valve cover gaskets. Pull your airbox off and see if there is any oil leaking around them. I'll bet you there is (Unless they've been replaced already)!

they replaced the gaskets already before i bought the car. there's a loose bolt on the valve cover though that i need tightened. i saw that when i replaced my filters. so i'm adding to the list tranny mount and bushings. at cold when my car is warming up, after about 12 seconds, there will be a high pitched sound for 5 seconds and then it'll go away. only happends when engine is cold though. bad....belt?

Jack up the car and look at the tranny to engine block
See if you see any oil residue where they connect.

Also check the motor/tranny mounts

If you're dealer can solve the whine, high pitched sound - they will be the first. I've recorded it and sent it to so many MB and AMG contacts, and no explanation so far.

Is the whining sound is similar to a tile cutter sound?
On my c32 I was told this this was normal, it was one of pumps priming before the car start. I think it was the SC pump but not sure. If you have it then it is not the SC Pump.

It does it before you start the car correct?

no it does it in the morning for about thirty seconds when i start the car. not when the car is off. i know that when you turn the key to the on position it makes that noise, i knew that it was normal, but had no idea it was the pumps priming. thanks tomorrow is the day, i take my car at 10 in the morning and then january 8, it's ecu tune time

update: they're replacing both bottom pad seat warmers, tranny mount, front two engine mounts, and cylinder 5 is misfiring so they're gonna take care of that. they're doing a 27 point inspection plus everything else i wanted. good deal

What were the signs of Cylinder 5 mis-firing Thats pretty scary. I have the same problem with the weather stripping on the window, the whining of the engine, and the lack of warmth on the lower seat warmer pad. Just passed 30k miles, and looking at engine mounts + transmission flush next.

cylinder 7 as well now. they don't have an idea, but they don't hear or feel it while driving so they're clearing the codes. it's probably a spark plug going bad (which stealership wants $1,100 to replace all of them) my bushings look good, they're replacing the front two motor mounts and the tranny plate is fine and they are getting me new bottom seat pads for the two front seats. the car should be done tomorrow. i recently got robbed for $1800 so i'm gonna have to wait before i change all my spark plugs (certainly not at stealership) and get my oil changed. i have a $350 tune coming up on the 8th while i'm in vegas.

OK So you are going to drive it w/ misfiring cylinders because you can't afford to replace the spark plugs

yes sir. i'm not that worried about it because you can't tell they are. maybe it's shooting them these codes for god knows why. all i know is that every 5 years on this car you're supposed to replace the spark plugs and 5 years will be tomorrow for me (my service advisor is the source) i'm still freaking pissed about having my money stolen and i have an idea who took it so i'm gonna see if i can get that back first and then i'll go from there. i'm gonna get a quote from my mechanic to see what he'd charge me for the spark plugs and to change the oil.

You're not planning on getting that tune with possible misfiring cylinders are you?

Any why don't you keep your money in a bank?

Regarding spark plugs and oil
If it like here in Miami there are plenty of disgruntled MB mechanics who used to work at the stealership that opened up their independent shops

YOu should be paying $100 for a oil change for Mobil 1 Synthetic
and maybe $ 250 +/- for the park plugs (remember you need 16)

You should ask the dealer why they want to charge a day's worth of labor to change spark plugs. If they want to do it faster, they should probably look it up on youtube.

Plugs on a C55 are insanely easy to replace .... You can do it man, just get

1) OEM plugs or research what worked best for folks on here, 2 plugs per cyl, so 16
2) Get a LONG extension for a ratchet ...im talking like 12" for a few of the plugs, with one having a 90degree adjustable swivel .. makes things a bit easier ...

Pull off top cover, air intake ... then pull all of the coil packs off, follow the wires from them to the plugs... pull the plugs, take note of the ORDER the plugs are plugged in from each coil pack.

IF your misfire contiunes after you replace the plugs... it could be one of your wires coming from the coil pack OR the coil pack itself.

Someone here can probably tell you the exact "GAP" you need on the plugs.... just dont buy and put them in, make sure they are gapped properly

Gap tool is at any autozone/pepboys etc for about 1 dollar ... normally by the checkout counter. Standard Metric Ratchet set should work with that extension. It also helps if you have some extra large needle nose plyers to get a good grip on the end of the coil pack wires, where they attach to the plug, just get a solid grip and slowly pop off each coil pack wire from the plugs

If you were in the area I would tell you to bring a 12pk of beer over and I would help you :P Dont mind helping out a fellow MB brother

thank you so much for all that info. my uncle who is a huge gear head just read this with me and he said he knew exactly what you were saying and is now forcing me to do the work on it with him. they're bosche right? i'm gonna have to save this thread to my desktop so i can follow it along. honestly, my dad gets mad every time i touch the car because he thinks i'll ruin it with mods. he barely let me change the air filters myself! i get my car back in a couple hours, they are also replacing both bottom seat pads as well as everything else. i'm not leaving that dealer unless i find out EXACTLY what's causing those cylinders to "misfire" because i'm not about to be stuck with something, even though i know you all will help out. i have not yet left a deposit for the ecu tune (which i personally will not be present at even if my car gets tuned) but the price is amazing. i just hope the power is really changed because i have no way of finding out with the dyno because i didn't pay the extra money to rent the dyno. it wasn't necessary since i don't really have any mods worth doing it. and i would take your offer up on that 12 pack, but i'm only 19 man thanks again for the help!

Really good news about the spark plug $$. I think I'm due for new ones pretty soon.

FYI also make sure they check the secondary air injection. That is a pricey little bit on the AMG cars. Although in CA, you might be covered more comprehensively by the Federal Emissions Act (search, its good stuff). The dealer right now wants $1,100 to replace mine. The CEL will light up, but its not critical to the operation of the vehicle. There was also a TSB that came out in '06 for '05-'06 AMG models to upgrade the ECU, which was causing the fuse to short, and the pump to burn out.
