New C Class article from Autoweek 12/23/2010

Here's the latest from AutoWeek on the new C Class:

Mercedes-Benz has revealed a facelifted version of the C-class ahead of its planned North American introduction next July.

Boasting a series of detailed changes aimed at holding over the current third-generation C-class until a replacement model arrives in 2013, the new sedan and wagon pairing has received more than 2,000 individual updates, including the adoption of a 3.5-liter V6 engine that brings a claimed 31 percent improvement in fuel economy to the C350, Mercedes claims. The car lands in North America next summer.

More than a million C-classes have been sold around the world since 2007. The new C-class is visually distinguished from its predecessor by a series of subtle styling changes, including reprofiled bumpers, a more integrated grille, curvy new headlamps, a reworked aluminum hood, revised tail lamps with LED graphics and a new selection of alloy wheels.

The styling changes combine with better aerodynamics, including new sealing at the front end and alterations to the cladding used underneath the engine bay that help boost the new car's drag co-efficient to 0.26 in base trim.

Inside, there's a new angular instrument panel mirroring the one used in the larger E-class, a newly designed steering wheel, updated switchgear and high-quality trim materials. Mercedes-Benz has also given the C-class the latest generation of its navigation and entertainment systems to bring it into line with other recent upgrades in its lineup.

The base engine will be a twin-turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder producing 201 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque in the C250. The mid-range option is the four-wheel-drive C300 4Matic with a 3.5-liter V6 developing 228 hp and 221 lb-ft. Heading the lineup will be the C350 running Mercedes' new M276 engine. With 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, it is claimed to be significantly more economical than today's model.

Further development has been focused on the C-class's safety. It now offers buyers the same array of optional systems available on the larger E-class, including Mercedes-Benz's sleep-detecting Attention Assist, radar-controlled Distronic Plus cruise control and automatic Pre-Safe brakes that prematurely begin to pull the car to a stop when an imminent collision is detected.

*** My comments: No mention of the new/latest AMG and 302 HP out of the M276 3.5 litre V-6 aint too shabby either!! ***

302hp for the top model is ABOUT TIME! I am sure hoping it can run with the stock 335i now. It would be amazing if they offered the amg trim package for the C250 sport, like they did for the c230k. Would be a very cheap and what might be an ez car to mod...

Doesn't matter, the C32 is still faster than the C55.

We should ask our local 335 enthusiast if the C350 will keep up with the 335i
I doubt it, 335i has the torque advantage. Even with 300+hp, id say the C350 is prob a 5.9 sec car 0-60. The old C350 with a manual did it in 5.5.

Thats how i came across my C32 in late 2005. I was looking for a C350 6 speed and my sales guy reminded me of the C32 which was much cheaper.

The bimmer boys say nothing is faster than the 335i so thats a dead issue... I just hope it can actually hold its own against the 335i now, for everyday use, not modding and running on the track.

I see someone is learning!!!

Although that 302 HP in the new 3.5 V-6 is very inviting for a DD............
MB is getting 302 out of their 3.5 V-6 what Ford is getting out of a new 3.7
V-6...........

Very nice, though the best upgrade, in my opinion, is that interior! So much nicer looking! Glad they dropped that stupid flip up radio cover and/or nav screen.

The rise up nav screen is nice, just poorly integrated/looking when in the up position, and the whole center stack just looked ugly and cheap. W203 post-facelift ftw vs pre-facelift W204 interior. Well, same thing that happened with the W203 really.

True, but honestly I could deal with the pre facelift W203 interior, I could not own a pre facelift W204. As I've said in the past: the drivetrain is spot on, but the rest of the car is not that impressive (especially the interior).

Agree +100, that's the reason I went from a C43 to a C55 skipping the C32, a fast car no doubt. Strange though that the new C350 has the same 302 hp that the C43 AMG had (albeit, significantly less torque).

2002 C32 ///AMG
The M276 is the engine that was pretty much designed when Chrysler owned them. The Pentastar is already in the new Grand Cherokee and would suspect the MB offering will be really similar one it hits the streets. Neat engine that has the exhaust manifold built into the head and accessories built right into the block to reduce vibration. Will be interesting to see in the new C.
