stupid question, but is there anything I can do to help the glare on my C55s instrument info pane & improve visibility? Seems to be in perfect condition, but it can be a pain to see in some daytime situations...

i have the dash instrument lights turned up all the way, but those only come into play at night. Is there a separate brightness adjustment for that info pane on the C55? Im thinking its just glare. I was spoiled driving a buddy's new SRT8 - thats crazy bright in any light

EDIT: totally just found a thread on this: https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...d-display.html

Thanks

Hi; I paid 147.03 us shipped to Blacksburg, Va . I paid by Paypal. The replacement has been working great . Some have reported not being able to see the display wearing polarized glasses. I wear polarized sunglasses and have not had this problem .

I was just about to throw mine out as I'm moving and found it in a box.
If I remember correctly, it was just faded around the edges unless it sat in the sun for a long time.
Let me know if you want to give it a shot.

In any case, I finally found a replacement LCD screen which works. It has now been in my 2002 C32 for five months, in cold and hot weather, and not a single problem. The only diff from OEM that I can see is that the screen background color is slightly different. . . sort of a purplish black instead of pure black. I have also noticed that I cannot wear polarized sunglasses, or the screen almost disappears(?)

You can thank Kit ("04MBC230") on the W203 forum for finding these. Here is the info he sent me:

"Well here goes. I never had called them (long distance). I only communicate with them through email and since the are in the European Continent (Located in Italy). They do not replies email until you wake up the next morning (since their day begins when we are sleeping here in the Cali).

I paid about $144 USD + $4 of foreign exchange fee = $147 total for that day I purchase. Don't know about the rates today, could be more or less. Bottom line is. It will cost $110 EURO SHIPPED to your destination. Well I live in San Francisco, CA. The cost on that is 80 EURO (part) + 30 EURO shipping = 110 EURO.

Here's the website and company name. The company is called MINITOOLS and somehow is owned by SAVI Electronics. At least that is the header on the invoice they sent me.

Direct website for the product: http://audipixelrepair.com/lcd-displ...edes-w203-w209

Product Number : SEPDISP06

The rep I am working with is extreme nice. She should be able to put this order in for you. Her name is LISA ZOTTI

Here is her email address: lisa@minitools.it

Thought this might be valuable info to those of you who are tired of looking at a fading LCD screen in your instrument cluster, but who do not want to pay $1,500.00 to the dealer to completely replace the whole cluster.

BTW, the install is DIY and pretty easy. There are a few instructional threads here and on the W203 forum of how to do it.
I just ordered http://www.mte.net/lcd-display-mercedes-w203 from Lisa at SAVIX - I paid 80 euro and 30 euro for shipping. Just submit a product request via the website and Lisa will send you an invoice that you can pay via PayPal. It arrived within 48 hours (seriously) from Italy to Philadelphia via DHL. It was very well packed and instructions were fairly clear.

Update on replacement

So the install went very easy, but like someone else commented, when I wear my sunglasses, everything disappears. If I bend my head to the side I can see it, but not as bright. Straight on, looks blank. I emailed Lisa and she's supposed to get back to me, but if this is the end product, I cannot recommend it.

I believe the issue is polarized glasses. At least this is what I have observed.

That's exactly what it is. LCD screens and polarized lenses always do this.

You can fix the problem with not being able to see with polarized glasses. Well if you have an old flat screen monitor from a laptop or PC, just pull it apart & the screen should have around 5 layers of film & 2 sheets are polarized. One of them should be closest to the LCD but if your not sure which one, then place one sheet at a time in front of your glasses until your LCD display can be seen. Then cut out the measurements of your display & insert it in front of your display, behind the mounting.

You can see the 2 polarizing films in the diagram.
