Anyone with a C55 with a resonator Delete in Central NJ or Philly Area

Hello,

I have a 2006 C55 that is totally stock. I am thinking about doing the resonator delete (just the res - I want to leave the secondary cats in place). Feedback from those who have done it is overwhelmingly positive, but not universally so.

So what I'd like to find is someone who lives within a hour of me (I will drive the whole way to meet you) who has done the res delete in a C55 so I can compare the stock sound of my C55 to their car. This way I can make a truly informed decision.

Anyone live within an hour of Princeton New Jersey who would be willing to meet for an hour for the comparison? It's not urgent, as I do not drive the car with this salt and muck on the roads. Sometime in March or April would be ideal.

Is there anyone out there who can help?

Thanks guys.

Mike

You'll like it, no question. I've got the resonator and secondaries deleted and I would still like it louder. It has a great sound but you still can't hear it (ZERO resonance) at speed (55-80mph).

I could barely notice a difference with the resonators off after the rear cats came off it sounds perfect.

^this

you wont notice any difference with just the resonator removed (but it does take a good 25lbs off the car)

Thanks Guys for the feedback so far.

This is the issue, one guy says do it, it sounds great.

Then another guy says you won't notice any difference in sound with just the resonator deleted.

I have listened to all the video clips I can find (and appreciate folks posting them). However, there aren't any sound clips of a drive by or someone taking off from a dead stop in a stock C55. So it's hard to know "how much different" it really sounds.

I will say that nearly all the folks who have done the res delete have said to "just do it". A real no brainer. Others (many in fact) have said they needed to go to secondary cat delete to get the sound they wanted.

So I'm just trying to avoid making a change and feeling like it wasn't worth the effort.

Hopefully I will find someone not too far from me where I can do the compare. My other alternative is to take a video of my car accelerating from a dead stop and see how it compares to the video clips that you folks have been kind enough to put out there.

Thanks,

Got your PM, I'm just really slow at responding. We can catch up when it gets nice out, as I'm just below exit 5 on the NJTPK.

Sounds Good.

How can I get in contact with you so we can arrange a time that works for us - once all this salt is off the roads? Can you PM me your e-mail?

Thanks

Hey let me know if you guys decide to meet up.

Perhaps the official "south jersey" meet.

My engine is still ticking so i figure its time to consider mods since warranty is worthless...

Have you put headers on yet? Don't make me be the first...

I have not done headers. Only mod so far is the sprint booster 2 - which I installed today. Very pleased with that mod - allows the car accelerate the way it should have out of the factory.

I'm thinking about the res delete. Don't want to delete the secondary cats - at least not at this point.

I looked into headers, but decided against due to the limited options and the cost/benefit.

Like you my warranty expired so at least I'm not constrained by that concern.

Dont sweat the ticking, every one of them does it. A few things that I do to minimize are changing the oil at 5k with 0/40 and running a good injector cleaner every few tank fulls. It helps, but theyre just noisy engines. Im up for a meet once the weather breaks. There was another guy that lives near me with one too, but im not sure if he still has it as I havent spoke to him in a while.

C55 Stock Exhaust Sound

For those who also might want to do a compare of our stock exhaust sound against those who have modified their exhausts (after all, when is the last time you got to hear the sound of your exhaust from the outside as your car screams by) I had the following two video's shot this weekend. There are not the greatest, but one is of my car (stock C55) taking off from a dead start and the other shows my car screaming past in a drive by. Sorry, but in the second one my car does not come into frame until about 14 seconds in - I need a new videographer.

I'm still trying to determine if I want to mess with the stock set up.

You know, there is definitely nothing wrong with the way the C55 stock exhaust sounds . You don't really here it as much when you are in the car but outside

Agreed. That's why I took the video's. We don't ever get to hear the sound of our stock exhaust set up from outside the car. I wanted something to compare against the video's posted by the guys who have modified their exhaust systems - which all sound great by the way.

I still probably will hook up with the guy in South Jersey as there is no substitute for hearing it live.

Here's a video of my 427 Shelby Cobra exhaust on a drive by. Never going to get the C55 to sound this mean - and would not want to either. It's a 408 stroker (6.7 liter) 500hp hand built motor with side pipe exhaust. And the funny thing is that even over time I found myself wanting even more sound this car

I'm definately up for a get together, but I have not deleted my resonator. The fantastic sound comes from the Kleemann headers, no primary cats and highflow secondary cats. Everything cat back is stock.

Tump43 - Did you ever re dyno your car after installing the Kleeman headers?
