Replacing Resonator with a Glass Pack...how does it sound?

I have read through the resonator delete thread, and I am one of those "happy" individuals who has had it done. I actually bought the car (minuse the resonator), so I have never actually heard what it is like with one.

I was curious, the day I made that discovery the shop where I was at offered to put a glasspack in place of my straight pipe. I was curious if anyone on here has either used a glasspack as a replacement for their resonator and if so how is the sound compared to a straight pipe replacement???

You may be the first one to try it..I would put a nice x pipe instead though..

pretty sure it'd sound close to a stock c55.

Gotcha, I'm just curious because the guys at the shop "claimed" it would be more throaty with it (but I'm not really convinced).

That is what I would think since its basically just putting a mid muffler section back in.

I had thought about replacing the two stock mufflers with magnaflows or similar brand at one point and just swapping over the AMG tips. I think that would be the best way to alter the sound. Instead I went with an X-pipe..

OP have you removed the secondary cats? I think the sound changed much more dramatically with them out compared to when I just pulled out the resonator.

With stock c55 exhaust (2 to 1 to 2) no way to have an x pipe. That's only for true duals

Or maybe I'm missing what you're saying

This is true but it is an option. I had true duals with an x pipe installed recently and it didn't cost too much more than when I had the same shop just chop the cats and resonator the first time around.

When did you get that done? Any videos? I'd love for mine to be louder.

Do you have any picture of the exhaust work. I know my C55 is still the 2-1-2 configuration.

Not the best pic but you get the idea. True duals with an X pipe.

I would not go with X setup

X pipe will take some hp out. I have lost about 7 WHP when I install the X pipe on my true dual. After market Resonators (perforated core) will tone the exhaust note .This is just my .02 cents

You lost HP? What about TQ? I was under the impression that the addition of an X pipe sometimes give a TQ increase due to adding some backpressure back into the equation. Especially if the exhaust is too freeflowing

Hmmm.. I was told that X pipe is the best way to go for our cars... Actually I was about to put a xpipe on my slk tomorrow... might have to think over?

Here are some pics of my Xpipe..

What setup are you running? Headers? Straight duals? Cats? Tune? If you have dyno proof id be really interested. You never know, I didnt dyno mine before and after.

My car is Kleemann K2 and I am running Kleeamnn headers with downpipes. Custom true dual 2.5” stainless steel pipes. All cats and resonator deleted. I have installed the x pipe to get some backpressure, but unfortunately the car was chocking a bit at high rpms , dynoed the car before and after , found out I have lost some HP (7whp) . There is always a debate weather the x pipe is actually improving the airflow or chocking it. Other than that, the backpressure was great and so was the exhaust note.
