Thoughts on this matchup (2011 MGT vs. 2006 C55)
My buddy here at work just got a new 2011 Mustang GT with the Coyote engine, hes got the Roush cat back exhaust and Roush lowering springs, and according to him thats all.
My car has the mods in my sig, including the +30HP exhaust mods
Before we take it to the back roads, thoughts? I'm guessing Ill lose and Ill never hear the end of it...
Anybody ever raced one? Only thing I got going for me is he weighs 100 lbs more than me

I would say you will give him a run for his money. There are many other factors that come into play as well.
For example, let's say he has a manual transmission and during all the excitement misses a gear...it's over for him. Let's say that he has excessive wheelspin, it's over.
Now, let's look at the other scenario, you lose. He gets to drive off in his new GT feeling all big and bad...you get to drive off in a sweet looking, rare, AMG.
All I would have to do is look at that 3 pointed star and I would immediately feel better knowing I have a car with muscle AND class.
Have fun, but more importantly, be safe.

Thanks, and I agree about my MB, I could have gotten the GT if I really wanted that kind of ride...
You know... It's much worse because its office drama, I can't mute him or tune him out, that's what I'm dreading, and if mine was totally stock then I could play it off saying "hey I don't care about the go", but since mine is lowered, has wheels, exhaust note, etc it's going to add fuel to the fire

Yeah, but you could also play the "older car" card....tell him to go race a new C63....
Then just tell him you seen about 10 new GTs on your way to work and didn't see any AMGs.....
Is he running a manual?

haha.
you could always tell him you have nothing to prove too.
or even exaggerate how fast his car is. tell him he's right, he has the fastest car in the world! nothing else even comes close! not even another gt....

That coyote motor is suppose to be a real animal. From looking at some of the times on dragtimes they trap 110+ fairly stock so my guess is if he can drive you will get walked.
Riverace you do work in the same town as me. One of these days we might have to meet up for lunch and a little C55 vs C55 run.

yeah, i think i would just tell him to go race a c63.
lol
just hope that if you race him he messes up a shift or spins the tires too much.
i really want a c63 actually....those cars are so awesome!

I love my car, but Ill be honest. The one thing I dislike and makes my car feel sort of weak (for lack of a better word) is the transmission, I'd even go as far as to say this is what makes me at times question how strong of a performer it is. Even in S and manual mode its just not something to write home about, maybe its just me I dunno

I went to a Ford "Drive Day" and they had an automatic Mustang GT there. It had all the mods they offer ( numerically higher gear ratio) and to tell the truth, it was a nice car. It felt torquey, way different than the 55 and the 32. BUT, it didn't have the "jump" off the line that the 32 does. I'd agree with DB in that its a very quick car. This one stickered at about $42 K, so the price was not that bad as well. Not one to mince words, the new Mustangs, particularly the 11s are very nice cars.

Just put it to rest and run him................what have you got to lose other than the race??? If he can't drive like was alluded above ^^ you may just beat him.

Also the more linear power band of an NA V8 motor does not exaggerate this "jump" but I can bet you that the '11 GT leaves just as hard.

ONLY if its the 11 model...................very few of those on the street!! (and you have to beware since there's a TON of bolt-ons for the stangs as well, they even offer a factory SC option (aftermarket) with a warranty if a dealer installs it).
I will give you this, the GT is strong and the V-6 with the perf package and high rear-end ain't bad either!!

I was neck to neck untill 125+ then I pulled away with a 2010 GT with full headers-back,intake,gears,throttle body and tune. I was stock and on heavy 20's, a 2011 has alot more power. I'd say your only hope is from a stop, go get some good tires and practice launching first, if you have practice and he doesnt you should be good till about 100, if you win dont race him again cause that was your only chance. From a roll you have no chance!
