IMO, it's only worth it if you've got an older dvd. I had a 2005 version, and the 2010 version was definitely worth it, a lot of map data changes.

For the most part, most burned copies will not work.

You can buy original discs from MBUSA online, navteq online, your dealer, and you can find older discs on ebay. Check the classifieds on here too.

If you use a burned one it will update your software version and work very poorly and give you dirty disk errors. Once you update your software version it's not downgradeable and you will be forced to buy the disk FYI.

Did you get the set? If so, are you planning to sell the other discs that you are not using? I need the disc for Illinois.

Also, did you have to do an "interim update" going from 2005 to 2010? How do you go about that?

There is no set there is one DVD only older models used the disk set which were CD based. I had to do an update coming from a 2006 version so yes there is an update.

The 05+ style in a single in-dash DVD, it is not a CD set. No issues making a 5 year jump

Thank you for this information! I'm also glad to know that an interim update is not needed.

This is exactly why I used a $200 Garmin with Lifetime FREE (included) map updates. Update on line with a USB in about 2 minutes for any where you want (primarily North America). Its faster than the MB Nav and can get you updates on brand-new roads, closures, contruction etc.

Newz, nothing wrong with the garmin, its an excellent product. However, I dont like wires dangling (yes you can hardwire, but its still clunky) and I like the GPS integrated with my phone/sat/radio etc. Garmin doesn't do that.

All true, BUT its portable from car to car, cheaper, easily updateable. I'll agree that something hanging on the windshield is not good nor on the dash, BUT the pure functionality of it is great. A new set of Full NA MB Disks is over $300 clams. For that you can almost get 2 Garmins/TomTom or Magellans. The MB Technology is about 10 years old at this point, the Garmin I have is the latest tech and is very fast, knows where I am and easily POI's etc. Plus, it'll give you current gas prices when travelling and even hotels. I don't disagree with you at all.

I don't know how may Channel the MB Nav is, BUT the latest Garmin has 20 channels and WAAS etc. The more birds it gets, the better it is at tracking.

Couldn't agree with you more. I use a (now outdated) 255W on my motorcycle and after like 2.5 years, it still works flawlessly.

No doubt for $200+ it's more practical to get a Garmin than a Navteq disc. The Garmin will surely outperform our OEM Nav in every aspect too.

I actually already have a Garmin Nuvi (I think it's the 2460LT model) in my SUV. It works perfectly for my needs and is indeed a good quality GPS.
I have no problems transferring the GPS back and forth between the two vehicles (if I wanted a faster responding GPS in the C55). But like xxaarraa, I just wanted to keep my C55's dash clean and integrated.

Can you tell from the pic below if this is an original Navteq DVD or just a copy? I know the pic quality is not that great, but I was hoping it's easy to tell.

Look original from the picture, but I have seen customers that have bought them online and they end up being copies and they usually don't work well easy sign is the price if you are getting it under $200 bucks it's probably fake. The only way to tell for sure is if you see the actual picture of the disks other side. That picture looks familiar I don't think it's of the actual one you are purchasing. Just to let you know their worth I sold my outdated one on eBay for $70 bucks.
