2006 C55 AMG
I havn't had the chance to fit mine yet but as I will after I get back from holiday.

so hopefully in a month or so I will have some results, I have already had the car on the dyno twice (2 different dynos)

I will fit them in a month and will dyno the car and have the ECU remaped!

of course! i really want to know what performance gains i can expect first though. 10rwhp for $1,570 installed does not seem reasonable to me so we'll see what gains people get.

Agreed!

I am keeping positive and hoping for reasonable results!

A guy with an SLK55 gained 18rwhp, I think i'd be happy with that!

Off topic but a guy here had his 2004 C55 de-cated, not hurd anything like it, might do it when I fit the AMS headers!!

well i think of it like this: with my ecu flash alone (i have k&n filters) i got 14rwhp over stock putting me at 319rwhp. if i got another 15-20rwhp just from those headers, i'd be sold.

That is why I plan on doing a Renntech intake first, its proven to make more or equal than AMS headers without the labor/instal cost.He is my observation

1. $999.99 = Ams headers, $400.00 for intall, then another $300 for the removal and a resale value of about $600.00, for 10 or less whp you spent $1,700 plus your car 2 days in the shop. In the end your -$1,100.00

2. Or you can do all the work yourself and spend a day for install and a half day for removal and you will only lose $400.00 after resale.

3. Instead get a Renntech Intake for $1,600.00 anybody can install/remove it in less than an hour, resale value is at about $1,000.00, your engine bay looks nice since its carbon fiber and you get about the same hp.In the end your at -$600.00 without spending alot of time for a lil hp.

4. Kleemann headers would make more power but the welding issues and passing smog so having to swap would be a hassel.

5. I believe that most the power is made from removing the cats, can someone build us replaceable test pipes? This is what I plan to do after an Intake.

i like your observation, and it makes sense on paper. what about doing headers AND the renntech CF airbox? (i firmly believe i've been in the market for a used one longer than anyone) their just way too hard to find. then get the ecu flash since the airbox and headers are considered bolt on's and you'll be good.

How much power is the Renntech airbox make? Do you have to use stupid K&N air filters with it to make the power? I don't really see how it could make that big of a difference.

You can use OEM filters on the Renntech box.

Renntech are way over priced IMO.

It actually comes with k&n filters, they are overpriced but they have a decent resale value so you will get $1,000 back when decide to sell your car. Another option if you need money back right away if to sell your AMG airbox to anyone with a 500 engine for about $500.00 then you only lost $1,100.00 and an hour of your time. I sound like a salesmen, I better shutup and buy myself one soon. Vendors PM me your best price on one.

I agree, it's just an airbox not actually an intake. I'm not sure I could bring myself to spend that kind of money for an airbox. Especially if the power gains are only "impressive" because of K&Ns (which I will not use).

I plan to get headers/tune also just not sure which ones, I just think intake should be first since its a simple swap. I have been looking for use ones also, by the time I see them on classifieds they are already sold. They resale in less than a week timeframe.

For the people that said the renntech CF airboxes don't do much, you are greatly mistaken.

How much better is that actual cf airbox than using the stock box with K&Ns? I have heard that using a sl55 airbox with K&Ns provide a substantial power increase?

Has anyone put up a before and after dyno of their AMS headers?

Well, if you plan on de-catting at some point, then I would probably just opt out for the Kleemanns or MBH's and bypass the AMS all together. My take was that the biggest benefit of use the AMS was assuming that you wanted to keep your original cats (at least the primary).

I am happy with my kleemanns I picked up for $1500, but they are not bolt on if you want to go back to stock anytime soon.

Also, the ECU requires a reflash or else you'll have the CEL on the whole time because you're getting rid of the o2 sensors up front.

The Renntech Airbox is a great investment, resale value is high and the power is veryy good. On top of performance and looks my gas mileage has increased and in cold weather induction sounds great

Agreed the best bang for the buck on the C55 is the Renntech airbox first, then Kleeman or MBH long tube headers which delete the primary cat, then an ECU tune. With that set up you will get about 50 to 75 more crank hp (about the best that can be done on a C55 short of turboing or supercharging it) and great sound. BTW, I found all of these parts used except the Quaife LSD, and in the final analysis, no mod's make financial sense; they only make the car more enjoyable to its owner.

Following in that vein, the best mods that I've found for this car are, by far, the CLK 63 Black Series steering rack, the KW V2 adjustable coil overs, with the Quaife LSD coming in a distant third.

But, as the racers say: it doesn't really matter what you have in your car, it matters what you can do with it; and what they recomend to all of us, before spending any money on mods, are driving/racing lessons and appropriate brake pads.

Did you ever dyno with your mods, how do you like the pulleys? I have them on my list since its the cheapest upgrade that should help make more power.

whatever happened to br44j07 doing the dyno? that's the main thing holding me back on these headers.
