Changed Pads and rotors this weekend, Front and back.

I went with Factory Rotors, and Akebono Pads.

Brakes feel spongy now. Anyone else with Akebono's have this issue?

there is a special break-in process that you are supposed to do with the brakes. did you do that?

Akebono's do not require a bed in process, even though you should probably do one anyway.

I had the same opinions about akebono's at first - I think it's a mix of a physically softer pad and a more linear pad. Whereas the the stock jurid pads were harder, but the first part of the pad was somewhat dead, and then eventually got to a point where it started to grip well. I think it just takes getting used to. I don't notice it anymore

I did alot of research about bedding in the Akebonos and as Viper said nobody really said that they needed to be bedded in. SO I didn't. They are already starting to feel better. I do notice that they do feel more linear.

I have Akebono pads also. The pads feel much softer and don't bite well when they are cold. They really need to be heated up to brake well. When braking from 70-0 or something like that, they really stop well but when driving in the city, they brake like crap. The only good thing about them is that they really don't dust up. Next time, I will probably use stock pads again.

I just put new akebono ppads and zimmerman rotors front and rear. Definitly still feels softer than what I was expecting. Almost no initial bite, but I guess that's why they're refered to as linear. I would definitely like more initial bite though. I wouldn't think over or under tightening caliper bolts would affect brake performance save castostrophic failure. (Which actually happened during this brake change when I comeplely forgot to tighten a rear caliper bolt, it wasn't pretty). Anyway I'm thinking my car's old brake lines and fluid are adding tomy lack of bite. Ill be looking for ss brake lines asap.

I have stock rotors front, CLK 55 BS rear rotors and akebono pads -- no problem with lack of initial bite, etc. Very linear, very strong and rather modulateable, which I like. I do however have stainless steel braided brake lines at all four corners and change the fluid every year to year and a half.

I've got the Akabonos and it feels the same. They've gotten better over time but they don't have the same bite the stock pads do no doubt.

Why would you mix compounds like that? The RED stuff pads are pretty much a track pad that only work once they are hot. Street temps never really get in to that range.

I use Centric Posi Quiet pads as well as Centric Premium Rotors and they bite great - just like stock in my opinion. These are low dust pads (the reason I use them - in all my cars). I am surprised they bite as well as they do given the low dust characteristics. Anyway, I've used them in 4 different cars now with no complains whatsoever.
