Help-is it alternator ?
Hi guys
Today I was driving the car and suddenly the car stopped and the power steering went off. A red light came on screen and I could not read it fast enough but it said "battery" something and "alternator". I then put the car in park and started the engine again and drove home. This happened twice today, could this be the alternator ?
What is the OEM alternator that comes in the c32 2002?
I called and the price of an alternator here is $676.00. Does anyone know of a website that ships to Canada ?

From what you are describing I do not think it the Alternator. If the Alternator is dead, it won’t charge the Battery. Your battery will run out of juice and you will not be able to start the car again. Have you scanned the car to see if you have codes?

It could be an alternator. I got the error when I was idling and was able to drive it 40 miles before everything suht down finally (one system at a time). I'll bet had I turned it off right when I saw it I would have been able to start it bac up and drive. I was even listening to teh radio for much of my last drive when mine went out.
FYI I got mine from http://www.AutohausAZ.com much cheaper than that!! They hadnled my core return promptly as well.

btw...easy install for someone who has worked on cars before. Medium level job for somenoe less experience. It took me about 4 hours (less if I did it again). Sometimes the back of the alternator is turned and thus won't line up wit your wiring...if so, just unbolt the back and turn the case.

Well test your alternator first don't buy a new one until then....I think it may be your battery...mine if I don't use car for a week(which I only use it on weekends) I get the same warning...so I shut all off radio, lights, heater/AC and drive a while warnings go...basically my battery is running low til alternator charges it to spec..if you need to replace alternator why not have it rebuilt I have a thread about buying a Bosch alternator and using it over my I think valeo...turn car on remove your positive lead off your alternator if car shuts off it's your alternator if not looks like it may be your battery

Thanks a lot for your help and advice, picked up an alternator here from BOSCH at 244 plus core at 105. But got it checked and it was not the alternator that seemed to be the problem. I should have read the forum posts before ordering one, but he said he would take returns.
