Schrempps C 32 AMG
Post 5,5l V8 W203

HI all,

there are rumours about the new C 55 AMG W203. In german forums they talk about a not supercharged 5,5 l V8 engine which will be installed in the C klass at the beginning of 2004. This version will replace the supercharged V6 engine.

I don´t know if thats true but if it is then the C 32 AMG will get collectors value very fast.

Regards,

C32
This is more or less the same rumour that I heared over in Stuttgard. Seems like MB is going to back of from compressor engines due to heavy fuel usage.

What's the mpg on a C32? I don't see how it can get worse gas mileage than a 5.5l engine.

The 5.5 l V8 will already replace the 3.2 l V6 Kompressor in the SLK (R 171). It's only logical that the C-Class will follow, even though I'm not sure if it will still put the old M 113 (5.5 l V8 3-valve) in the c-class or rather wait until the new line of V8-engines (4-valve) will be available.

Collector's Item? Do you have any idea how many C32 are out there?!

Maybe nothing in the US, but on German highways the mileage is awful and definitively worse than i.e. on the CLK 55.

The V6 Kompressor is a nice tool, but it doesn't even come close the the "sex appeal" of a real V8. A V8 is just smoother, feels more relaxed and powerful in every situation. Not to forget the sound.

collectors item?

So Ronald,

How many C32's have been produced already? I thought in the US, production is limited to 1000 or so a year.

Sounds like cost consolidation again. This way, AMG's primary engine is the 5.5L V-8, and they "only" need to supercharge it for most other applications.

BTW, even if you limited the C32 to 1000 total, that is not extremely rare, given the amount of cars on sale right now.

I don't have the official numbers, but I'm guessing that we are close to 10k worldwide already. The C32 is one of the most popular AMG models.

A normally aspirated eight-cylinder is much more appealing to me than a blown six. However, this move would surprise me because Mercedes is using boost in all the prestige line cars now and I seriously doubt that M-B is sweating the economy issue either. Time will tell!

All prestige line cars?
- ML 55
- G 55 (and G 63)
- CLK 55 (Coupé and Cabriolet)
- SLK 55

You couldn't fit a V8 Kompressor into the C / SLK / CLK and it would be too heavy, too. However the V8 is only 20 kg heavier than the V6 Kompressor.

I have no idea what a 5.5 consumes. I don't even know that the new C AMG will have the 5.5 l inside. I was just told by people that are as close to AMG as you can get that the next generation AMG cars will be moving away from kompressor.

isn't the slk coming out with a new model soon? v8 kompressor just came out for e55, sl55...and then there's the twin-turbo v12 for the sl600...
