Does your C55 spin it's tires?
I have an E55 with over 500whp so maybe I'm just used to the power but I find my friends C55 kind of tame. It has a Renntech airbox and the secondary cats removed and he can't spin the tires off the line even with esp off. He has some Nexen N3000 tires out back ( 265/30/19 ) which aren't bad tires but I honestly expected him to be able to spin them.
He also lost to my other friends 300whp 4AT Trans Am ( stock LS1 ) by about 1 car lenght.

Hmm, that's interesting. Nexens are cheapo tires so I'm not sure why he would have problems spinning them. I can spin my Michelins just putting the pedal to the floor from a dead stop.

ESP off and first gear launch, mine spins like crazy, I have 255 Conti Extreme Contacts out back. You buddy must either have it launch from 2nd (C mode) or has a problem with his car.

He has it in S. He also has no cels and we just did a tuneup with new plugs, oil and k&n filters. The car pulls decent up on top but down low it feels kinda weak. What should I check?

Mine spins the tires too, usually by accident. He should time the car 0-60 instead. Anyone can spin tires depending on the traction. My car has a tune though and puts down just over 300 whp

you should put that car on the dyno. I have 265's on the rear and I can spin them a good bit. The mods I have is exhaust and tune. My car spun stock to..

Miles?
Needs a tune?
Air filters?
I would throw it on a dyno, or take it to the track and check trap speed... that will tell you real quick the health of the motor.
When I bought a used z06 years ago, the 1st thing I did when I got it off the transporter was have it dyno tested locally to be sure no issues....... and I was please with 347 rwhp (it was the 01 z06).
That will give you pc of mind.

What I'm wondering is if the previous owner put in regular gas the car should revert to a base timing map that should be considerably weaker than a premium gas map ( due to knock sensor activity ). We'll see what happens after I reset his ECU. He's had the car for about a week only.

The C55 wont spin through the gears like the 500hp AMGs. So it it could be less noticeable. Sometimes I only notice wheel spin in my SL when the rear end starts to waggle.

RE: Wheel Spin
With ESP off and first gear launch, mine will spin nicely, although nothing like my E63 or a W211 E55 would. I currently have Hankook V12's in stock sizes on the C55.
I think your friends car may be a little down on power; in the course of my daily travels I've encountered 4 Corvette C5 pilots to date, all auto non Z06 cars, both from a dig and roll, and and my current stats are C55 4, C5 0. Not blow aways per say, but ahead by car or 2 every time. Of course, one never knows for sure what a Corvette, Camaro, or Mustang is actually running under the hood, but I've been quite pleased with the C55's performance, it holds it's own in the real world.
