Interior light dome / rain sensor?

Quick question:

Is the interior overhead light thing (you know with the sunroof opener and such) in any way connected to the rain sensor?

The rain sensor (brand new) is not working in my 2003 C32. However, I know the overhead thing is from a 2002 and DID NOT come with the car originally. Could that have any affect on the rain sensor? The dealer after replacing the rain sensor tells me they need to replace the SAM module, though I'm thinking the whole cause of this may be the overhead light thing.

Anyone able to shed some light? Thanks!

Quoting from your earlier post:

My dealer is telling me that my rain sensor is not working and it's because of this.
It is located in the trunk of the car (See below).

See this link for the components of the Rear SAM (N10/2).

It sure is. You are referring to the 'Overhead Control Panel Control Unit' (N70). This control panel communicates with the Rear SAM (N10/2) and also with the Front SAM (N10/1). The rain sensor information is relayed through the overhead control panel and then on to the rear and front SAMs.

All of the above is possible. The MY2002 may not have been set up for the rain sensor (code 345a).
Are you sure your rear SAM even has a relay for this option? Unfortunately, I don't know exactly which bay this relay should be in. Perhaps Bay B or F??

In any case, I'd doubt if the entire Rear SAM needs to be replaced.

Well I took out the overhead control thing from my 2002 C32 and put it in my 2003 C32, at sometime thereafter my rain sensor stopped working. the dealer told me it is the Sam module, but after I told them that the overhead control unit is from an 02 they told me to bring them my original that came in the 2003 and they are going to test that one.

At first they replaced my rain sensor, but that didn't fix it. So they told me the SAM Module should be replaced, but after I explained the overhead control unit in the car was from a different car, they told me to bring them the one that came with it and they would check it to see if the SAM Module is still good.

Well my dealer put my original overhead control unit back in the car, and that fixed the rain sensor issue!

2005 Mercedes E55 AMG
where is the over head control panel module located? How about the BCM (battery control module)? I need to replace both of these in my 2005 E55 AMG. o they require reprogramming once replaced?
