i know it costs like $250 from the dealer...
and as far as i know, don't think there's a "software" update... I'm still rocking the original 05 "software" lol

Agree with sleeper - have not seen anyone on these forums mention that the software can be upgraded.
The nav disc is made by Navteq. They sell it for $249. I've never seen it on sale. If you find otherwise let us know. I'm still using the '06 disc that came with the car new without any real issues. If I could get a current version for under $200 I might bite.

There are minor software updates with the new map DVD's, but they are not intensive enough, as in changing the actual interface. I wish they would though, since the interface on most new car's today is incredible (but has the hardware to support it as well).
The difference in 2005 vs. 2010 maps is pretty significant, at least where I live.

I'm on my fourth DVD and the only difference I've ever noticed was that more mobile home parks have shown up that can't be turned off. One has to wonder if the MB target market has changed.

There's a 2006.1 version for only $19.99 right now:

Not as good as the $23 2008 version deal that I got, but 20 bucks for a 2 year upgrade is not that bad too.
