no radio reception turns into MAJOR service!

With the loss of radio reception and loss of range on my remote control, I brought my car in for service. The fuse to the RF amplifier kept blowing, so it must of been grounding out somewhere. Well the service dept, informs me that they have to replace my back window because thats where the antenna problem is at.

I can't believe this. My car is 2 months old. what a major HEADACHE! I know **** happens, but come on Mercedes, what a faulty design.

I hate leaving my car at service. I am totally bummed. my previous 99 clk430 never had problems. This C32 has a electronic gremlins waiting to cause problems. From power seats not moving, on the 2nd day I took delivery, to now having to change my back windshield antenna....

oh yeah, my loaner is a lousy jetta!

Be happy they know what to do. The design is surely questionable from accessability standpoint. Enjoy abusing I mean using the Jetta. That will cheer you.

Count yourself lucky!

My car is currently in the shop AGAIN for ESP problems (been there 2 days now). This is my second C32 (the first one, a 2002, was a lemon) and I'm having just as many problems with this 6 month old 2003. Love the car, but the reliability is crap, no doubt about it. I'm nearly done with Mercedes - I think it's about time to cut my losses.

It's a shame - I was a first time MB buyer, but will probably never buy MB again! Can't fault the dealers efforts, but MB quality has definitely gone downhill.

yea.... for some reasons the C32 is not so good w/eletrical wiring. but... as time goes on... it gets better! at least you get a loaner, last time when my key won't unlock my door... took it in for service... and got a ride back w/a shuttle bus.

Drive it like you stole it.
Put bleach or ATF on the tires and do a burnout and post pics.

Sometimes, it's the accumulation of the seeminly "little" glitches here and there, that took away all the initial excitment/emotion of a vehicle that you once loved. So, if you feel that your ride is giving you too much hassle, treat it like a piece of worthless ****. Drive the crap out of it and trade it in quick. Unavoidable that you'll loose some money; hey but that's better than gettin' pissed off at your ride all the time for no reason. I did it to a tiny little piece of major **** called Boxster.

Well, the window was replaced and still no reception

Now the service department is telling me that "maybe" its my comand system. how does that explain the loss of remote control distance?

My car has been at the shop for 4 days now. They broke the back window trying to take it out. So now I have glass dust and a few minor scratches on the car. My interior headliner was completely removed as well as interior panels trying to get at the comand system. So what if its not the comand? Are they going to replace my antenna in the rear window again?

The car has got 2k miles on it, and DFC is telling me I should beat the **** out of it and trade it in. Why would I do that? I think that is a little extreme.

This will be my last Mercedes.

If keys > Not Comand,

Go back to looking at the rear window amplifiers, ask/demand a better technician, have a talk with the shop foreman. If you are unimpressed then have them move the car to another dealer at their cost.

That will shake them up and get their full attention

I think you are exaggerating things a little bit, wanting to give up on mercedes. as far as ive read, you have had only 2 problems, power seats and radio reception. and you are ready to give up on benz just for that?? there are people here who have had wayy wayy more probs, just be thankful you have only had 2. so what if they have to take the car apart, give them a chance to make things right, sheesh.

Look rcalcaide, I can sense your anger and frustration over this whole new car gone bad issue. Like I said before, based on my boxster experience, I honestly belive that no car should test their owner's temper, even if it's only the slightest bit of it. "Give your car a chance"-- well, I'd already given my car(s) chances by purchasing it. Reliability and duriability are just something that an upper class brand owner should not have to have headaches on, especially on a regular basis. Unfortunately, it is not true in most cases; and that's how I have developed such aversions toward Porsche and BMW. Maybe it's b/c I work in aero purchasing business; and reliability is ever so important to me. But I don't think there should be an excuses just b/c our cars are not in the air.

I dont get why you guys are so bothered by having to take your car in for a service? I dont mind it, and when i had to take my car in to have my passenger seat brackets replaced and the sunroof seal reattached i wasn't fried. The in-house Enterprise people were willing to give me a E320, but my friend that worked at the dealer let me borrow his E500 so I guess thats why I dont have problem with it.

Yes, your expectations are completely unrealistic. You simply cannot compare the aeronautical/aerospace industry to automotive production for a variety of reasons, from profit motivation to government regulation. Aeronautics makes automobile manufacturing appear to be an easy a business to get into as opening a lemonade stand (talk about oligopoly!).

There's an easy way to get your car to perform as flawlessly as airplanes: inspection every six months, mechanical inspection after every use, install multiple engines/transmissions/computers for fault tolerance, etc.

Now, whose up for a $1.2 million Civic?
