plus the V-10 is extremely temperamental and the SMG transmission is very unreliable... this M5 has a "known issue" of the engine just stopping, lighting up like a christmas tree, and transmission completely failing (usually an SMG pump failure)

amazing and pretty car, super powerful and fun to drive, but never worry-free in my opinion.

+1. plus it's always worth more to you than to the buyers who will low-ball you

If you are 20, are your parents buying you cars? If your parents are buying, whether you can afford it or not is irrelevant isn't it?

On the other hand, if you are in college and working part time jobs to pay for your cars, you have no business playing with AMGs. You should be getting yourself a nice reliable civic or corolla and saving up for books and grad school applications.

I disagree with this statement about what he "should" do - who are we to pass judgement on someone else's personal situation? he's clearly an enthusiast, he says he can't afford both, so that's good enough for me! and i wish mike all the best with his next AMG

He’s ostensibly a self-made man who’s now bought an E63 on his own dime.

yea i'm paying for this one myself. the way i worked was my parents handed me down my first car and then i bought the rest including the c55 and now i'm paying the difference for the e63 i want. i still have to sell my c55. not selling it for less than 24k now since they sold the e63 i wanted to get. the next one in my area is an 08 blk/blk 42k miles for about $38k is what i'll end up paying for it. this is while still having a few pennies i want to keep around in case worst case scenario on the care happens.

If you got offered $24k, take it because you may not see it again! Drive a different family member's car in the meantime whie you find the right E63. And I'm telling you man, don't forego the E63 wagon... Although very hard to find and when you do they are expensive as heck because people know they're rare

What options does the '08 have? And in what condition? $38k isn't a bad price.

contacted them today. it's fully loaded with everything except the LSD. P2 package. has the panoramic roof too. the absolute lowest they'd take was $40k (they have it listed for $43k) i was expecting to get it for $38k and even that's pushing it. i'm just going to lay low for a little bit until another 07' comes up for cheap. it really sucks too because i start school next week and i won't have time to look for an e63 and buyer for my car, but we'll see what happens.

There is also an excellent DIY post in the W211 section on how to replace the struts yourself and save a lot of money. You may be aware of all this already but just looking out for you....

Coincidently, there is a black CPOd low mileage 2008 E63 (with P31 package)
not too far away from where I am that caught my eye. I'd be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted, however, the airmatic and fuel sender issues make me hesitant...

Fuel sender/gas tank is a big issue with the 05-06 E55 as well. BOLO for it. Just search the forums and you'll see its an issue.

Kuzni
Thanks for props!
Make sure that car does not have a gas leak like all E Classes do. Make sure you buy the car with a full tank of gas. When full remove the rear seats, open up the driver side access panel (6 hex 10mm screws)and look/smell for gas. You will know right away.
Airmatic SUspension is a issue so make freinds with the arnott site
IIRC I dont think the E63 has the SBC braking system the E55 has. MB has a ten year warranty on SBC.
Car has two batteries

lol Ed welcome to my kneck of the woods man! you should make a new thread introducing yourself and your background IMO. yea i actually picked up the E63 today. definitely miss that "in control" feeling of the c55. E63 isn't exactly the driver's car allll the time like the C55. only when you want it to be, it turns into a monster.
