I agree... Sounds crap, where did this info come from? I dont add any oil between oil changes. Your leaking somewhere if your need to add oil.

I have to top up every 3 months or so. No leaks. Its not uncommon for big v8's to use oil.

You are the ones talking crap not MB.

So... now that I am on my 3rd car with a m113, 2 of them being AMG's, and non of them consuming oil at that rate I must be full of it right? I would definitely trust hearsay over first hand knowledge.

nobody is saying that they will consume that much or should consume that much. This is just simply the Mercedes tolerance range before warranting a repair. So, if you don't consume 1.35 qt in 1000 miles then Mercedes considers this normal operation.

I have c32 with 61,000 miles and I don't use any between oil changes, I change ever 6000 miles with Driven (Joe Gibbs) 5w40 or red line 5w40

The point is, every engine is different. Some will use oil, some won't.

Math works differently over there, eh? Over here, 2<3.

With a tick over 120k miles, mine uses no oil. No blow-by on startup and I've had friends chop the throttle from WOT and none then either.

Just do what I do ... drive it around 300 miles a year, change the oil every 2 years and even if your engine drinks oil - you'll barely notice. Just trying to bring some levity to the discussion. Oil gets burned no matter what - it just variable across engines.

Im gonna revive this thread instead of creating a new one.

im thinking about switching to 5/40 instead of 0/40. I am located in northern california and it gets hot here during the summer and dips to 40-60s during this time of the year.

would that be ok to use?

either is fine as long as the are spec. When I lived there I ran 0-40 with no issues.

I too live in No.CA.

I am a fanatic about changing it every 5k, and my OCD has paid off.

Been using 0-40 Mobil 1 in my C55 with great success and zero consumption issues.

Just make sure whatever brand of 5-40 you use meets MB specs and you should be fine.

The weather here is pretty consistent so it easy to plan in advance regardless of the season.

The (for multi-weight oils) low number is cold weight / high number is hot weight. The zero is better for cold starts (regardless of temperature) and the high number is the same - so switching to 5w-40 won't change anything for you.
