Chirp noise coming from s/c pulley engagement
Has anyone had a problem with an annoying chirp noise that comes from the s/c clutch when it engages. I've had a eurocharged s/c pulley on my car for about 10 months with no noise, and now with in the last couple of days a chirp noise has came about. I've pulled it apart to look at the surfaces on both sides, the pulley side looks great, and the s/c side doesn't look too bad either maybe just a little uneven on the surface. Not sure if the darker rings on the s/c pulley side is the magnetic part or some sort of clutch material. I think about removing a shim or two any thoughts.

Yep, mine came about a week after the EC pulley installed. The shims have been adjusted, gatorback belt and recently a NW PSK with the gates belt but chirp still there. I've had the EC pulley on since released. Here are some threads: https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...hirp-saga.html

The w211 E55 or SL55 forum will have a lot more info as it is a more predominate occurrence. I gave up and don’t hear it anymore. It seems no real fix for it that I could find.

Today I took the pulley back off and sanded both sides with 120 grit sandpaper to scuff the surfaces up, and took one shim out. I also sprayed both surfaces with squeal medic which is metallic like spray used for brake rotors. The noise is gone for now, but only time will tell.

Not sure why the thought of removing a shim came to mind? Usually this problem is due to not enough space between the pulley plate and clutch plate. The normal solution is to add additional shims...

The reason I took a shim out was because my spacing was about 0.50mm to 0.60mm which is way to much, I thought when I originally installed the pulley I spaced it to the 0.20mm to 0.30mm that eurocharged specified. How I ended up with so much clearance is beyond me. I,m confused why it was quiet for so long and then started to make the chirp noise.
