"mis firing"

Ok, I need some help. I have a 2002 C32 and started having trouble when driving. Took it to my local mechanic and he thinks the engine is misfiring on 3, 4 and 6. He said it may be the plugs, it may be the wires, it may be the coils. I just got new plugs less than a year ago. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what this may be???

I appreciate any help. I love this car!

I would swap - spark plugs - wires - coil packs with other cylinder's so that way your technician can properly diagnose the issue. So swap plugs tell him to monitor the running values of the car, if misfire on 3/4/6 still exist then take step two and swap wires, then if issue still present swap coil packs. Have to take this step by step. Let your tech have the vehicle as long as he needs so he isn't rushed on working on your car! Swap them one at a time other wise what's the point...

If he doesn't know how to diagnose a misfire, you need to take your car somewhere else. All he's going to do is waste your money throwing parts at it.

+1. Look for a new mechanic. Not everyone can work on Mercedes cars or for that matter has the tools and the diagnostics equipment. I would say that if your mechanic does not have his own STAR computer, go somewhere else.

I have to agree with the boys. Misfire is a pretty simple diag, and number_one_c55 listed the steps perfectly. If your guy has star like Lenin said it would make life easier...

It's a long story, but I chased a misfire after receiving some inaccurate information from the dealer, and it wound up being a bad upstream 02 sensor.

Are the wires aftermarket, more specifically Magnecor? If so, honestly, just try tightening removing the wires and putting them back on as tight as possible, maybe with a little dielectric grease on them. I've gotten a few random spurts of misfires, even when I still had stock wires, and this is an easy fix for it (for any car, really).
