Part numbers for differential bearings?

Does anyone have the part numbers for the differential bearings for the C55? My Quaife came in and I was hoping to install it tomorrow, but EPC doesn't show the bearings... All it shows is the seals.

Hey 91RS, asked the same question myself a little while ago when I picked up a used Wavetrac and didn't get a single response. From what I've been able to put together, Benz (and Chrysler, using the same HAG215 internals on their SRT's...) won't actually sell the bearings or races seperately. They make you buy the whole rear end My installer thinks he may have alternatives...what that means I'm not sure, but if I get more info, I'll make sure to update you.

There's got to be something, I know there are some C55s with LSDs.

Normally, I would have searched around earlier, but I was at work and I was trying to get these ordered today since I had planned on installing tomorrow. Obviously, that isn't going to happen now! I did some Google searching and found a for sale thread from 2010 on SLKWorld: http://www.slkworld.com/slk-parts-sa...tml#post186023 . Going by his pictures, the part numbers are:

Bearings: 230 350 03 49
Seals: 230 997 03 46

Putting that part number in at getmercedesparts.com and at parts.com shows it fits a C55.

Damn dude, I guess I fail at Google...after plugging in some of those #'s, I found a thread here on MBWorld where James @ ACGSD says that the bearings on each side are different PN's. Sent him a PM as he used to stock these a while ago. Good find! Let you know what he says...

That's what I forgot to mention. I thought I'd read that somewhere, too. I was trying to find the how-to thread someone did for an E-Class (IIRC) and found that for sale thread instead.

Did he confirm whether or not the part number I posted above was correct? How much does he charge for the bearings? Are they different for the left and right?

When I had MB install my Quaife the shop manager searched for quite a while and ended up saying the same thing that you guys heard, MB does not offer the bearings as a separate line item, only available with the complete rear end.

I haven't had any issues at all but if somehow you guys do find that they are available I'll certainly pick some up.

If that price includes bearings and seals, we might as well buy from him. The bearing part number I found is $85.50 ea. and the seals are $11.63 ea. which comes to $194.26.

I just called ACGSD. I didn't talk to James, but he said the entire install kit (bearings, seals, MB sealant for the diff cover, and Motul gear oil) is ~$320 + shipping. He did confirm though the part number for the bearings I posted above is correct for the C55 and they are the same for right and left. I've already got some gear oil and plenty of GM engine sealer (should work just the same).

From what I've read on here most cars don't need shims, but every car is different so there is always the possibility. My local dealer said they sell shims separately.

Cool, he hadn't answered my PM yet. $320 works for me!

I didn't order my parts through ACGSD since I didn't need all of the parts in the install kit, I used parts.com. The part number I posted above is correct, but only for one side. I put that number into EPC without vehicle information and it pulled up the EXACT same picture it does for my car where it says nothing is serviceable! There is one part number that shows quantity needed is two (which I think may be for the older smaller diff), one that says only serviceable as part of the entire differential, and 230 350 03 49 showing qty of one and 230 350 0 49 showing qty of one. So it looks like that second number is the other one I needed. I overnighted it through my local dealer. The only thing I can figure is the guy I talked to at ACGSD just saw the last two numbers where the same for the left and right and just said they were the same. I wish I would have talked to James, but I suppose mistakes can happen either way. I was pissed earlier, but it is what it is.

Got the other bearing today and it is correct! So the correct part numbers are:

230 350 03 49 Bearing
230 350 02 49 Bearing
230 997 03 46 Seal X 2

I've got the carrier ready to go back in the case tomorrow. Getting the ring gear on the carrier was a PITA! I had to put the gear in a toaster oven for a while and the carrier in the freezer to get them together. Everything else has just been fiddly.

It's in and well worth it! The car is completely different! Now it drives like it's supposed to. I'm not scared of what the stability control might (or might not) do. It definately doesn't step in nearly as much. If you're interested in the one bearing I ended up not using, send me a PM.

I also decided to replace both axle nuts: 001 990 38 50

A few things to note about the installation I didn't see elsewhere: The snap rings ARE the shims, so don't mix them up and make sure they get reinstalled on the same side the came from. The first snap ring (doesn't matter which side) will be tough to get out (and back in).
