Why you should check air filters after buying used car!
Popped open air box today just to check filters.
Bought car two months ago.
Apparently never changed before purchase!
Both filters clogged! One with cigarette butt in it!

Do you really need a DIY to change the air filter?
1. Remove front engine cover
2. Remove rear engine cover/airbox.
3. I can't remember if the screws are Torx or not, but remove the screws on the bottom of the air box.
4. Pull out old air filter.
5. Put in new air filter.
6. Do everything in reverse.

Mine were even worse...cleaning them out produced about a pound of crap. I'd suggest an oil change immediately as well!

When buying a used car, people may want to consider the following approach - if there's no receipt or evidence that it's been done, it hasn't been. No receipt for the latest service means it hasn't been done. The average seller is not going to pay for anything more than a "for sale" sign.

Wow thats a lot of crap! I would do mine except I plan on changing the whole intake very soon.
Some excellent advice. The parts guy at MB tried to tell me the transmission fluid had been done. On further investigation the service records included 1 liter only of fluid = not done.
