C55 wont crank/start

C55 wont crank/start

Hey everyone

So I recently bought this c55 a few weeks ago. Got engine mounts/tranny mount, and trans fluid and filter/gasket replaced today.

I have noticed since I got the car that it has failed to start twice, where when you turn the key after accessory to start it does nothing. It also has had some hiccups starting that mimic a weak/low battery.

Well today it officially stopped starting. I dont get any cranking so I believe that rules out CPS. I swapped my new battery from my 04 clk55 into the c55 and no luck either. Only thing I can think of is bad starter ( solenoid ) or EIS/ SAM problem.

Anyone experience something like this? I have no idea if the starter goes out on this car if it will make no noise or anything when you turn the key to start. I have checked all my fuses and can hear the fuel pump operate.

Hey i got an 05 C55 as well. Had some starting issues and then it died. Boosted it and got it home but it died again. Got new battery and all was good then 2 weeks later tried to start. heard some high pitch spinning sound and a bad smell and now nothing. No crank,click or any other sound..
I'm thinking starter as well. Was it easy to replace? I've done it on many other cars but not sure how easy it is on this one.

The starter is a bit of a pain because it's tucked away down low on the passenger side.

I was charged $200 to have it changed, and $128 for the starter

Ok i called around and minimum 1000$ to change.
I found it tucked low under the right manifold. I read somewhere that you go underneath and pull the cats off and the exhaust.
I would be more likely interested in going from the top and taking the manifold off.
I can get a Bosch starter for 200$ and save myself 800 minus a new manifold gasket.
Anyone know if there would be an issue taking the manifold off and going that route?

same issue here... anyone determine the best way to remove the starter... it is tight in there.

Just so everyone knows you have to remove the passenger side exhaust and motor mount. I got I picked up a rebuilt Bosch starter. After getting it all back together the stupid thing is sticking and keeps spinning until you smack it. Now have to take it all back apart
