C55 headlight HELP.........

I am a newbie of this site, I just bought the used C55 last month. Already spend me lots of money fixing this AMG car, but I still love it alot for the power it had.

Last night when I was driving my car, I realize one of the hid on the driver side suddenly turning purple........I have no idea why. Can someone help me out? Is it the light bulb going out soon, or the Ballast? or the ignition? if the light bulb, is it the D2S light?

And also, can I change the fog light to HID too? Is it a H7?

Thanks for help

Not sure what is wrong with the your driver side HID.. but it sounds like a bulb to me. A bad ballast usually does a flicker since the signal to the light would be corrupt. A color change could indicate a bulb that's about to die.

The fog's and high beams are both H7 bulbs. There are numerous threads on upgrading the fog lights to HID in the w203 forums.

Thanks.....actually I am scared to change the headlight bulb after reading all the posted on the forum like how the ballast and igniter went out after putting a new bulb in. Is the HID kit work for this car? Can I use the HID kit to bypass the stock ballast? Thanks.......

Why in the world would you bypass your stock HID ballast with an aftermarket HID kit? Just replace the bulb.... these cars aren't that fragile. Just wash your hands and don't touch the bulb with your fingers. Just like any halogen bulb.

Ok......Thanks! I will replace the headlight bulb with 8000k and the fog light also to 8000k. Do I need to remove the bumper in order to do for the fog light or the highlight? Thanks for your help Speed7.......

For bulb replacement then no you don't need to take off he bumper. Only thing you'll need to do is pull the grills off of the front mesh grills where the fogs are. Also make sure to have a few REALLY long zip ties. That's what is used to keep the dust covers on for the fog lights. You'll have to cut them to replace the bulbs.

It my memory serves me right to do the fogs all you need is an 8mm wrench and 8mm socket. As well as a flat blade screw driver to push the grill tabs up so it can be removed. Once the lamp is unbolted from the car you can rotate it out of the mesh grill opening.

For the HID's I have no idea unfortunately. However the head lamps are easy to access. I've replaced the running lights and high beams. And had no issues getting to them.

If you look around here the owners manual is in a PDF form and you can download it. Either that it could also be on the MB site. It should have pictures and directions on bulb replacement. Just remember that your fogs are H7 bulbs.

Don't know honestly. If you go with a standard bulb manufacturer like Phillips orHhella you should be ok.
