I have a leaky sunroof and driving me nuts. I had a shop clean out the drains, and at one point, replace the main sunroof seal with a revised seal. If the car sits outside overnight in pouring rain, no leaks at all. If I am driving the car and eventually park, water comes in on the passenger side (but not all the time). I notice the water at the hinge of the passenger grab handle. It's my understanding the whole sunroof sits in some type of cassette and maybe that seal is broken and only when water hits the cassette, at a specific area, it comes in. I really do not want to get rid of the car, but can't have water coming in. Any ideas?

That is what I like to know. I am told it's normal for water to get in and drain through the channels in front and rear. The problem is sometimes water must be sitting near the cassette and not making it to the channels. I am saving up dollars as I know if someone figures it out, it will cost me big dollars.

I'm sure this is not relevant for you, but when my roof starting leaking near the mirror, I also suspected the sunroof. It turns out the problem was rust-through in the windshield channel. I had the windshield replaced and the rust repaired and the leak went away.

After many years of water leaking into the cabin, I finally spend the $$ to fix the sunroof cassette. Parts ran about $1000 and labor around $900. So far, no leaks.... Mercedes said the cassette was really warped and was the problem.
