Buying new Audi S4, 02' C32 FOR SALE!!!!
The $5k plus $15k is the difference between your C32 and new S4!
Good Luck with your choice.
Good luck with the S4. It is one heck of a nice car. I chased one here in So-Cal a while back (factory car out testing) and it was a very good chase.
Did you look at the M3? I made the mistake of driving an E46 M3 and now I have some thinking to do
. It is a great car. There is no torque but that did not stop us from gluing ourselves to the bumper of a heavily modified Z06 on a local canyon road. Bone stock M3 eats Modded Z06. That was FUN. When the Z06 driver asked what mods M3 had, the owner joyfully said "she’s all stock." The Z06 driver was speechless and suddenly "had to go." LOL The build quality of this M3 was good but not great. The C32 is most definitely better screwed together but the M3 feels more solid when you push the chassis (like it could do it all day long). It is all about trade-off's!
But you are right Zeppelin; the C32 is a great base car for a person interested in going that route! Good point. That is the beauty of the supercharged motor!
My car has enough issues and it is almost stock.
One must also remember that a modded car has little re-sale value. But a stock car is worth a very nice amount! I just sold a full Brabus conversion car (CL500 -- 5.8L motor, brakes, wheels, body kit, full exhaust, interior work etc..) and it only got 5k more than what a stock CL500 was getting. That is just plain sad! Some say once modded the car is worth less than stock due to warranty issues. The Brabus was at least covered by the Brabus warranty! But a full Brabus Conversion only gets about $.10 for each $1 spent on modifications. That car sounded great though

I have been looking at lightly used M3 SMG II's and well those cars are going for near new prices. Cars with 36k miles still are pulling 39k. C32's are lucky to pull 45k for 2002 and a normal 2002 C32 goes for about 39. This is a tad depressing! 2003 M3's sell with 6k miles for exactly what they cost new! Guess the M3's are still in demand! This is odd being that the C32 is very limited production while the M3 is mass-produced!

As for the sale of your c32, all I can say is that I was completely dismayed with the re-sale numbers I was getting when I decided to purchase a 2002 targa. I went to my various "connections" in the higher end new/used auto market & they all came in @ around $55k (cdn) TOPS!
This is on a well equipped 10-month old, 17,000km car that went out @ $90k (cdn) 10 months before!
The experience was bitter-sweet.....
The Bitter = Porsche Financial + Me are now the owners of a new Targa (vs. just ME as owner)
The Sweet = I keep my 1/2 price c32 & enjoy the FULL value (btw I got close to $11k for a 1996 GOLF III w. some rust
GO FIGGGURE!!!)
Talking about resale value, S4 is more worst than C32. For M3, I did see a lot of '02s with SMG II, or sticks, are going around $40K here.
I had a z06 before my c32 and there is simply no way a stock m3 was hanging...unless the Z pilot could not drive
Could be the 911 vs. M3 issue as well. M3's inspire more confidence, but it doesn't mean that the M3 is necessarily faster.

Sorry to hear that you're downgrading. Good luck.
Now that's just MB bias talking. The S4 is a great car. Styling is subjective but I like it. You'll be happy with the Audi V8 and definitely have more fun on the twisties and the track with your AWD and 6 speed manual. Both nice cars. Good choice.
The all wheel is nice on the twisties.
S4 is a great car, but you would have to considered the trade offs, better handling with harsher ride and less power. If you miss driving a stick, like myself, just go to the dealers and do test drives. If I were you, I would save the money for the RS6 or E55.

I just need to get into a bit sportier car & yes and my S4 will have a 6 speed manual.
