Removed the resonator...some thoughts
Well, at idle, its not much louder than stock. It has a little deeper tone, but unless you know what to hear for, you really wont notice. It's at acceleration in first or second gear that you hear the difference. Also, WOT sounds really nice.
But...It will never come close to the sound of a nice V8.(although my CLK430 with an eisanmann exhaust was not that loud either.)
And the cost to remove the resonator? 50 bucks at my local meineke shop. Less than 45mins to do.
One other item of interest for those who haven't seen the underside of the
C32. The exhaust is stamped with the "AMG" logo, but is made by Sebring.

How do you think this will impact your day to day drivability of the car? I did a similar trick on a Taurus SHO, and it sounded real mean (for a NA 3.2l 6cyl, that is..). The only thing I was dissapointed with was the excessive noise from 4000-6000RPM.
When I'd cruise down the I5 between San Onofre and Oceanside, I'd usually kick off O/D and, if traffic was light enough, cruise down in no time flat. When I'd put the O/D back on, I maintained about 4000 rpm (90-110, it's been awhile), which was excessivly LOUD and obnoxious. What it didn't sound was "ricey".
Come to think of it, I find a lot of things loud and obnoxious so.. take it for what it's worth!
I recommend this quick change to all C32 owners.
I don't think it will harm day to day driving. Believe me, its not that extreme of a change in sound. And I don't think it will affect performance.
I was seriously looking at changing the exhaust, and going with an eisanmmann race muffler. But for 1grand, I think I will use that towards the ODPS from Evosport.
You will be surprised how your exhaust will sound a couple of months from now!! Your thoughts are exactly the same as mine after I took the resonator out, I too, had a CLK430 before.
Has anyone in L.a done this yet?

The acceleration of the car is still the same. no droning sounds of any kind.
The car now has throaty sound to match its performance without being obtrusive.
time for the ODPS!
