2002 c32
i thought
I read somewhere that others did not have the "goldening" effect b/c they used a "racing" type brake fluid.... you may want to consider that option

C32AMG
Brake fluid type
has zero effect on the heat generated by braking. The brake parts get just as hot;better quality/fresher brake fluid will let your brakes perform better at higher, sustained temps. This will make the calipers'paint darken a bit more quickly.I'll take darkened paint over brake-fade any day.

I just bought the 2003 C32 used w/ 8,000 miles. I had it delivered to Evosport. When it arrived, Mr. Vanos noticed the gold calipers. I did a search and found a few threads, including this one. It is weird, b/c there are no other signs of hard driving. Oh well. They really are gold... it's pretty funny. I don't have a place to host the pic.

Some automotive metal paints become unstable at high temperatures and change color. It has to do with the quality of the paint used and its expected tolorance within its given use and environment. I wonder if the 8 piston caliper on the SL55 and E 55 will also change with intense heat? I don't think MB did heat testing on their caliper to see if a change in color would occur. It did not happened to my car, nor other C32's I have seen driven hard. Are all the gold calipers from 2002 model years? I would ask for them to be replaced under warranty. I don't believe it discloses this possible occurance in the manual.

Most dealerships will cover the gold calipers as warranty work. Roozy, I drove my C32 to the point of terminal fade many times and they never changed color. I doubt the track will be that hard on brakes. If you do not lap for 1 hr straight with no break the car should be 100% fine. The cars used by C Spot and AMG Challege are beat on for the whole day so it is no wonder the brakes change color.
Good luck... and have fun!

It is possible that it was used for some sort of track event during the first 1000 miles. I'm almost positive that it wasn't driven hard at all from 1000- 7500 miles. In any case, the car seems to be fine and is getting a pretty thorough checkup with Evosport so I'm not concerned.
