a car that can't do the throttle reset.
tech told me: "remove your car key when getting gas".

"it could ruin your key and cause damage to the car."

After a good chortle at his expense, he was actually serious. Needless to say, he shouldn't be allowed to do any job that involves breathing.

Discuss.

And because you all love me, my auto dimming mirrors suck. Never work.

Umm I doubt it could "ruin" your key. However if the station "blew" maybe that could hurt. You mainly want to kill the fuel pump while filling up, that's the main concern. I think that's what should be conveyed. "Removing" your key kind of makes sure that happens is all...

The last thing I would be worried about is your "key-fob" fouling as what is conveyed.

ok enough ranting.. was this guy a merc tech? I've had my many of jobs in the auto industry. And when I look back what I've said.. I want to ***** slap myself.. maybe he just needs a helping hand.

No no, he was clear. Remove the key from the ignition as it could damage the car as well as the key. Turning the car off wasn't enough to avoid such things.

Yup, MB tech.

Nah, that's only a problem if your power ignition fluid is low. Don't forget to keep it full with high octane keytronic starter fluid.

craaaazzyyy..... well don't go there again. =)

On the mirror thing.. my passenger mirror goes down in reverse.. but I didn't know my mirrors were supposed to "dim" like the rear view one does. I guess I'll have to pay more attention when I drive at night.

I bought a new hybrid key so I don't have to worry about any of that.

Pretty much what I wrote. I was having a convo about the newer keys with someone else, tech came in and shared his opinion and then veered into the whole 'oh, and don't forget to remove the key from the ignition when filling up..'.

It works flawlessly in my garage... but not so much outside.

While there is no mention of destroying the key, leaving it in can put a strain on a weak car battery according to the owners manual.

I just always take it out with me when I fill up anyway, for fear of the auto-lock shutting me out

I turned mine off. That's all I need...one more thing to break because it was used as intended.

Besides, I just thought that feature was a pain in the ****.

I am old enough to remember that we would just lift our butts off the seat to see the curb as we backed.

As to the key, you need to understand that the friction of the gas passing down the filler tube will create enough static electricity to cause a car (with key in ignition) to power up the accessory switch, resulting in a flapping stepper motor arm to beat on the back of the COMAND unit, causing the radio tuner to change to the local Rap/Hiphop station. The bass vibrations of the illicit music will wiggle the volume level up to a point that the music will be heard by innocent bystanders. As a matter of self-defence and protection of others, the station cashier will be forced to rush your car with the metal baseball bat attached to Men's room key, beating the windows and body panels until the music is stopped..resulting in damage to your car.

If you have dark window tint sometimes the auto-dimmer feature wont dim at all, or all the way on the mirrors because the rear window tint is blocking out alot of the bright light from the cars headlights behind you the rear mirror sensor is looking for at night. You will notice as the drivers mirror and rear mirror when dim have a greenish hue to them.

Also you can set where your passenger mirror looks when put into reverse. To activate the mirror reverse feature make sure the passenger side mirror button is down, Then put car in reverse and adjust the mirror to what you want to see in reverse (example down to see the curbs), once completed put back into drive and the programming is done. If your ever backing up and dont want the mirror to move when in reverse push the drivers side mirror button to deactivate. To reactivate push the passenger button.

All of these nifty little features are detailed in the manual.

Last summer I was adjusting the mirrors, then didn't put the switch back to the passenger side and started to freak out when it didn't automatically dip. Turned out not to be a big deal, just had to have the switch back in the right place.

Funny how when one gets accustomed to little niceties, one can get all into a huff when they don't function as advertised....

Speaking of which, I wish that BOTH mirrors dipped when the car was in reverse. Our Land Rover does that, and it's a huge help when parking that thing.
