Helpful Secondary air pump tip
Recently the check engine light came on
P0410 - secondary air injection system malfunction
After doing some research, came across boohooramblers thread
https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...-pump-fix.html
Quite helpful as in how to take apart the housing and the motor casing
Also found a guy on Ebay who can rebuild these air pumps for under $100 dollars (does not replace the motor, but rebuilds you original motor)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Ben...ts_Accessories &hash=item3cce866202
Being a technician I wanted something cheaper/easier. If it can be rebuilt, I want to rebuild it. So I started digging around and came across this
A 000 140 51 58 - Secondary air injection more from all 272-273 engines
(E-CLS350-550, C-CLK350-550, ML,GL,R350-550, Etc)
Took it apart and was able to check out the motor
Turns out to be exactly the same motor as our cars (A 000 140 42 85) C32/C55
Swapped in the motor and reset the check engine light, done
A 000 140 51 58 - is used in more vehicles and are cheaper, so if you find one then you can have yourself a cheap and easy fix for your P0410
On a side note, if you are thinking about repairing it by replacing your brushes and your motor looks like this
You are out of luck, this shows the holder for the brushes melts and are now in a steep angle, it is beyond repair unless you are able to locate the holding assembly.
Comparison to a how a proper one should look (good on the bottom)
I am not responsible for any damages that you/it may cause to your vehicle, this is merely a thread to provide new information I have found. At you own risk

My secondary injection pump failed just about a year ago this month - recently when I drove the car into my garage I shut the engine off and a dull noise continued - turned out it was the SAIP running - possibly the relay failed - at any rate of course my battery went dead over the weekend - when I got the car running on Monday took it to the shop and lo and behold they told me the pump failed and they'd replace it under warranty - wow I was impressed
BTW what does this thing do?
BTW what does this thing do?

It is supposed to inject more oxygen into the cats at startup to warm them up faster for better emissions efficiency
