Is it bad to not re-oil your K&N Air Filters after cleaning?

After cleaning my K&N air filters I wasn't able to find my recharge oil. I have been driving the car around for a week without re-oiling it.

Is this really that bad to run them without the oil?

absolutely. The oil is the whole reason why they work (not that they work that well).

I'd throw the thing in the trash anyway and go back to stock

No. Unless you used detergent to wash it clean.

It's worse to use it at all. Stock filters +1.

The oil on the filter will not be removed with just water. You need to use the K&N cleaner or degreaser to remove the oil. If you just used water to wash it, your filter is fine. In the future, if you're not planning on reoiling, just use a brush to lightly brush the dirt off.
