Catalytic Converter
Hi Everyone!
My Mechanic said that I need to replace one of my Catalytic Converters. The genuine mercedes part is expensive and yields no performance. What are my options? I am wanting to possibly replace them with some high flow aftermarket Cats and maybe even replace my old AMG muffler with something louder.
My Car is a 2003 C32 AMG with the big Pulley Kit and ECU tuning for 93 octane.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm not too sure on specifics because I live in CA and most shops will only replace primary cats with OEM, but there are certainly high-flow aftermarket cats available. Is SC really harsh with emissions?

Well, you are basically free to take your pick of aftermarket high flow units. I suggest you stick with name brand and replace with similar sized ones. Should be worth a few horses too!

Huh, I can't find anyone who makes a nice high flow aftermarket catalytic converter. Flowmaster, Magnaflow, nothing. Who makes'em for Mercedes?

I know magnaflow does, many are offered as universal fitment and you just pick the correct inlet size and roughly the same length as your current factory cats. Just be sure to stick to name brand as I have seen honeycomb blown out the back of cars after just a few hundred miles.

Erik,
In looking through our system we don’t list any parts for replacement converters for that particular car. As for exhaust components you can visit our website and view the custom builder kits. These provide the tubing you should need to custom make a kit all you would need after that are mufflers, tips and a cross over pipe (if necessary).

Hi,
my mechanic recently told me that I might need to replace one of my catalytic converters. He told me that he would recommend getting the Mercedes part. I have had great luck with Magnaflow in the past so I need your help.
Car
2003 C32 AMG
I would like to do a custom exhaust with all magnaflow parts. I want catalytic converters and a loud muffler you have all properly sized for my high performance car. I have a pulley kit on my car so this is a 349hp car with an additional 70-90 extra horsepower through the pulley kit. I am expect universal parts so do not worry about that I just need something that will properly work with my car.

Yeah,
He won't be finding specific kits for the C32 since its quite rare.
Not that you would usually be using a muscle car part vendor, but check this out:
http://www.jegs.com/p/Magnaflow/Magn...50982/10002/-1
Just make sure the inlet is the correct size (not sure if C32s are 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch) Your exhaust man will build the rest of the system around them.
Hope this helps out

Thanks guys! It is the primary Cat. Gramma Benz - I think I am going to go with the Pep Boys Cats and Remove the secondary and get a Magnaflow glasspack muffler, any advice on that? I ask you because I have done many of the same things to my car that you have. Jerry did the tune on my ECU and I got Eurocharge largest pulley. Also, would you recommend your coilovers?
Saer1one - love your front spoiler/fascia
Anyone have a link to the sound of their modified exhaust?
I will make a video of my exhaust when it is completed.
Thanks to everyone helping me with this!

You would need to have someone make you a downpipe and add a J-pipe that you see in my picture at the same location. This picture is from my set up and this works for me just fine. You can get the J-pipe here http://www.verociousmotorsports.com/...Jam-Nut-304-SS
I'm going back to Florida so emissions are irrelevant. Mainly looking for sound and maybe slight performance.

Lenin, so you've deleted secondary cat, and replaced primary cat w/ straight pipe (w/ j-pipe)? How does that sound? I'm assuming you deleted your resonator? I have the res delete and have been tinkering with deleting the secondary cats for a while, haven't considered replacing the primaries.

I have other exhaust mods so my car sounds different that your would be if you delete all your cats with resonator already gone. Maybe someone who had done what you are planning on can chime in. It's hard for me to judge if its going to be too loud for you or not. I like my cars fast and loud.

Dykemyster - i'm in chicago also and saw your post. i have a primary catalytic converter problem where the honeycomb has broken down and is rattling around making noise and the car drives very inconsistent..plus i have a slight fuel odor in the car whenever i stomp on the gas pedal so not sure if thats related to the cat problem or not.
**which shop in chicago did you go with to repair your catalytic converter / exhaust situation?
i have talked to MB dealer who quoted $2k to replace the cat and O2 sensors and $1600 from an independent shop. I called another place in the burbs who said that it shouldnt cost more than $700 bucks to just replace the primary cat with something like a Magnaflow and dont change the O2 sensors since my car computer isnt indicating any malfunctions or error codes.
