C55's: anybody replace their power steering pump yet?

I have a slightly annoying whine in the car when accerlerating. The first time this happened years ago it was the idler pulley ($15, can't beat it). This time probing around it sounds like it's faintly coming from the power steering pump. I'm assuming a bearing in there is starting to go slowly. At 120k miles; has anybody replaced their pump before, and if so, for what reason/what were your symptoms? It's a $400 part, so I want to be sure.....

You can rebuild the pump for 20 dollars and you don't even need to take off the whole pump. Search for diy power steering pump over haul. Easy to do and cheaper than a new pump.

+1 there is an excellent thread somewhere and it also has details of a seal kit. Another thread that saved me dollars and headaches. I bought the kit and gave it to the indie. Rebuilt and happydays.

Here's the DIY I did a while back for the C32. https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...-overhaul.html . Just check to see that the pump looks similar. Take in mind I used a seal kit from a 90's Mercedes so it should be the same for the C55.

But the posted DIY is for the seals; my future issue will most likely be bearings

I can't remember if it's a bearing integrated with the seal, but this is most likely what you're talking about. There is no other bearing to replace.

There is no bearing or any thing that goes bad, besides the seal.

There's a total of 7 large parts and 16 small parts including gaskets and clips.

There's nothing that could go bad, the only thing I can think of that could have been causing the bubbling, is that you were getting air in to the system.

I remember you saying that you may still have a problem with your pump, but maybe it could be the steering rack. Next step will be to do a DIY for that next, lol.
