Does it need a better fix....

I had a nail in this tire after the Pittsburg event......I took it to the shop and re mounted.....unfortunatelly couldn't go to VIR so never tested it. Now that the comp tires are off (to use the winter ones)I noticed this..... Does it need a beeter fix? Is it save for next years events?

Thanks!

Technically, any repair to a tire voids its speed rating.

I've patched several race tires on my Acura (max. spd. 115 or so) and never had any problems. Going 130+ may be a different story.

In any case, if you're going to try to continue using the tire, I'd have it dismounted, and patched from the inside, rather than have it plugged. A plug could be "thrown" at high speeds - not a pretty picture.

You may want to post a similar question for Luke in the Tires/Wheels forum.

OOPS . . . while I was replying, you were posting 3rd picture. Looks like you did patch from inside.

It does look like it was correclty patched from the inside. I have run patched tires before, but I would never have 100% confidence in them. AutoX, yes, 130+ at a track, no thanks.

Personally I would not take a chance. A blow out at high speeds can be more costly than replacing that tire or the set of tires.

No way would I trust my life on that tire at speeds in excess or 120.

Junk the tire and get a new one.
