500BHP C55 Technical Data

Hi Guys,
I am planning to do a turbo setup on the C55 targeting around 500BHP. The motor will be completely stock and I am hoping some of you Forced induction guys can answer the following questions for me.

After calculating it seems the 42lb injectors will be adequate but their IDCs might be closing in on 100%...?. Are any of you running stock injectors and making around 500bhp?

What engine management are you using to tune?

Will a hotwired oem pump be sufficient and how about the rails?

Will I need to run a higher fuel pressure....more in the 60s?

Are these engines capable of safely making this hp given a conservative low to 0 knock tune?

What is the weak point in this setup at this HP? The motor, tranny??

Thank you,
Derek

You should post this in the E55 W211 AMG forum. There are a lot more people running upgraded FI V8 AMG M113 setups than here. There are also a couple of turbo converted W211s.
It also seems like most of the W211s with upgraded pulley setups are running 550cc injectors.

You're going to have to lower the compression ratio.

nahhh not for 500 hp in an 5.4 litre engine.
but ofcourse, demands good fuelquality.

Pumpfuel in Sweden allows 2 litre engines to about 500hp with safety and about 9.5-1 i compressionratio.
Comparing litre vs power output.
That would be 1350hp with the same Bmep in an 5.4litre V8.
If you just divide the poweroutput you still have a HUGE safetymargin even with 11-1cr.
And still way above his goal of power(675hp)

And compare with an really effective NA engine, like ferrari, lamborghini etc etc.
They all got high power output just above the 100hp per litre level.
running on pumpfuel.

There are a difference thou, do NOT let the boost fly on lower rpm´s as it will build huge Bmep.
Let´s say you running boostcontrol, restrict the boost to about 600-650Nm at below ~4500rpm
And above you´re safe to let it rip... well almost

As we speak the car isn´t tuned yet, i have just finished the mech and waiting for ecu tune.
I´m hoping for about 550hp at 0.55bar of boost
I´m running 397cc injectors(3bar) at this point.
Std is under 300cc, i dont remember but ~250cc or in that area.
I have mounted a aeromotive fuelpressureregulator and an walbro gst400 pump in tank.
this flows for about 900hp, my injectors gives me option to about 700hp at 4.5bar of fuelpressure.

turbo is a fiddle to get it working on our cars as the std equipped mapsensor will send 'impossible data' to the ecu.
You can work around that in different ways.
zenerdiod,pressurerelease etc etc..
if you are a real softwarehacker you can change the sensor that gives correct signal.

Regarding injectors, standard on the C55 is 297cc@43.5(3bar). Pre 2006 W211 E55 is 396cc@43.5(3bar) and the 2006 W211 E55 is 482cc@43.5(3bar).

Just in case you or Quickvr4 need the info, the bosch part# for the 396cc injectors is 0-280-156-072 and for the 482cc is 0-280-156-304.

Bosch 396cc injectors (0-280-156-072) are $20 each + shipping from this guy (I purchased approx Sept 2013)

But I somehow dont think it will suffice your ambitions.
Happydays....
