Weird noise from the rear above 30mph!
So recently I've noticed a strange noise appear coming from the rear end. It's hard to demonstrate via text but basically it is a "wharp wharp wharp wharp" sound but very fast, once the car gets above about 30mph. Something rotational for sure. There is no shutter or change in the physcial feel of the car, just the sound.
I was thinking maybe a bad berring somewhere possibly? Maybe even from the tires? but i have plenty of tread and the tires look fine.
HOnestly its more scary than anything cuz I feel like something is just gonna explode in the back end (insert diarrhea joke here)!

You may want to check your flex discs as soon as humanly possible. When one lets go, the damage can be horrific. This happened when a front flex disc let go on a 126. Why yes, IT DID result in the the driveshaft eating through the floorboard/transmission tunnel. It also devoured the trans mount, broke the aluminum mount on the transmission, and twisted transmission cross member. See any shift linkage? No huh? Yep, thats gone too.
Like Mayhem says on the Allstate commercials, your Internet insurance policy may not cover this.

lol FML lets pray its not that!
Im thinking its a wheel bearing at this point in time. I think I may just take it to an INDY shop this weekend to see what happens. Nothing changes under braking besides the sound slowing down and going away under 30. I think its gotten louder but that may be paranoia at this point in time!
anyone ever change out a wheel bearing? keep in mind I will be searching it soon on my own, just wondering if doable

Yes sure, i had the same damn horror sound month ago, came from right rear side,
i thought that was a diff., or driveshaft, jacked the car and move the right wheel up & down,
felt some little gab routing, comparing with a left, removed the wheel & waaaaw bearing was crying,,
release it & put a new brother....!!
ZAYED,,

I last did it on a '68 Ford pickup, just keep everything clean and lubricate well on the way back in. I'm sure its nothing to worry about!!

I've had something similiar before, and it was due to hub centric spacers, not the full spacers, but the ones that go inside the wheel bore. happened on quite a few cars of mine actually, stupid me for not checking before swapping out wheels.
have you change wheels or something recently? its usually a plastic ring, sometimes metal.

See if the sound increases when taking a turn to that side. IF it does it's probably a wheel bearing. You can also jack the rear of the car up and see if there is any play in the wheel which will tell you if the bearing is bad or not as well.

im poretty sure the sound decreases when making right hand turns which is why it lead me to believe it is the right rear bearing vice the left. Haven't jacked the car up and played with the wheel. I assume you just grab it at the 12/6 position and simply make a push pull action to see if you get any play that shouldn't be there...
and quite sure its not the spacer. I've got plastic ones in there ok. Just added new ones to my fronts last week to solve some vibration issues I was having.

Had a buddy with a car (not a C55) that had a similar noise. He kept putting off jacking it up and checking it until the wheel and hub fell off....

lol damn...ya i just took it to this indy shop that i found and they confirmed what I thought it was. Right rear bearing. $400 out the door replaced they said. I'm also gonna have them look at why my car only rubs on the rear driverside wheel and no where else, no matter where anyone is sitting in the car!

Did they look at this? I'm pretty sure i have the same issue on mine as the driver side sticks out significantly more than the passenger side. I'm not sure if the rear cradle is mis-aligned or what....

ya they looked at it and couldnt find anything that looked out of place. Honestly, who knows how closely they actually looked but ya they basically gave me the
