I guess Mercedes offered an insert that would delete the cigarette lighter and ashtray and substitute in a 12V charger and more storage in its place. I don't know how rare they are (they must be as I've only seen pictures) or how they were originally obtained by w203 owners, but I figured I would ask.
Anyone know if these are still available? Outlandishly expensive?
If so, there's always DIY...

I remember looking at this a while back. I think you should be able to order it through your local dealer. I refrained from doing so at the time because it was like C$120. I baulked because a similar mod for my C43 was more like $40.

Yeah, I figured it would end up being really pricey. Good idea though, since I wouldn't dream of lighting up in the C55.

$57 from wholesale sites...I just ordered mine and as far as a DIY its easy after you unscrew it you just spread the two plastic guides on the sides that connect the top cover and then snap the cover onto the new tray. Quite straightforward once you pop it off and look at the ashtray sides.

My local indy shop told me C$120. Ouch! It would be coming from Germany. Maverick, which sites did you use? Think you could order one for me and send it up by mail to me?

At the time I did it, it was ~35$. It was a complete assembly and you only used the cover from the old ash tray assembly. The space gain is well worth it.

Wow- $35 is great, I'll give you $40 for it!

I found them on those wholesale sites at $57 (Diagram part #2).
My only question is: How can you tell that it is the 12V ashtray delete and not just the stock ashtray and cigarette lighter? It says "Ashtray assy" and doesnt give any more detail. Don't want to order the wrong thing!

I have one I can sell you. I threw away the box so I can't return it', but it's brand new. I have my radar detector mute button wired through the old one and it turns out I have to remove the direct wire for that so I don't want to do it after all.
