New C32 Guy... Car DIED while driving help. Cranks but no Start
Hey guys. im new to the c32 game but i did alot of research before i went out to buy my new project. I picked up a mildly modded, less than cared for c32 from florida and drove it all the way back to houston no problems.
Well i was driving about 10 miles to get an alignment when the car just died while coasting to a light. Now it just cranks but no start. Here is some history on the car.
61mm sc pulley and tune from EC
550cc injectors
PLM heat exchanger
and-----e55 fuel pump?? took a look at the pump and since its longer than oem the sending unit thing that the pump sits in is kinda tilted to make fit in the tank.
!!Now this weekend i washed the hell out of the engine bay. it was an insane mess. it still greasy as hell, but i have a feeling i may have messed something up when i was doing this. the lid on the fuse panel for the ecu was loose. i opened it and checked, it seemed mostly dry but i did find maybe a 2 drops or so of water.!!
Checked codes and only SAI pump code present. tried to start car this morning but had no luck.
I thought it may be a CPS sensor but I dont know. i guess i should check fuel pressure somehow as well.
do you guys have any suggestions?????

check fuel pump
just open the back right sit (passenger), u will see some cover, open it and the there will be round metal cover. Open that cover and u will se the fuel pump then just a little bit hit it with some item. then go and start car, if will be any improvement in cars starting the it is 1000% fuel pump

Just checked all the fuses in the ecu box and rear fuse box. Everything good. Wife cranked carwhile I verified fuel pump relay was activating. I might just throw a new cps on it and see what happens

Had a similar condition on my c32, cranks like a champ but would not start... seemed like it was not getting fuel.
I had a blown fuse for the motor electronics, check it out you might have the same problem.
Sounds like a small surge of power blew a fuse or something, maybe your alternator surged or something.

long story short: check fuse #48 in the fuse panel under the hood (driver side, right by the brake booster)

You can't go wrong with just getting a CPS and trying that. The one for my C55 was $45, so I'm sure the C32 is around the same. It's a common problem anyway so it WILL go bad at some point, so might as well just do it now.
Not sure what your experience is with MB or other German cars, but best places for parts:

Good luck!

Just a thought but on my CLK the brake light switch went bad and the car would not start. See if you have brake lights.

I think if it were the brake switch then I wouldn't be able to shift out of park. I'll check anyway. The previous owner told me to check the aux fuel pump. He thinks it may have fell off when he installed e55 pump

Yes i have a relay in the trunk. if i didnt the car would have never started. I checked the relay with my hand while my wife cranked the engine. i felt the relay engage and disengage just the way it should.

OK I'm pretty sure its not the CPS anymore. I tried the ole screwdriver at the end of a plug wire trick. It was definitely firing so I have spark. I just must not have fuel. I'm wondering of that aux pump fell off the feed line for the main pump.

Can you remove the schrader valve on the passenger side of the fuel rail to see if there is any fuel in the rail? And how exactly did you connect the E55 pump and why?

Anyways its connected just the same I believe. It barely fits lol. He put it in so I would have more pump once I start making more power with 550cc. Does this make sense?? I'm still new too this car

Remove the schrader valve and let us know if you have any fuel in the rail.

Theoretically, it does make sense. If the E55 pump can flow sufficient amount of fuel for a 5.5 liter engine, it should be plenty for the 3.2 liter, engine even with 550cc injectors. But in reality, there may be other obstructions (filters, regulators, fuel line size) that will impede the flow of fuel. At the same time a higher fuel pressure may impact your AFRs. You need to monitor fuel pressure, injector duty cycle and AFRs if you are swapping fuel system components or you are asking for trouble.

Afrs may definitely be affected. Ii did get 25 mpg hwy back from florida so I don't know by how much. I don't think the fpr or fuel lines will really be affected by a slightly larger pump. I bolted in a 320lph pump by division x in my old sc300 with a 2jz back in the day and nothing happened fpr/fuel line wise
