My C55 has a 6500rpm redline just everyone else's I assume. Last week at the road track I was driving harder and faster than ever in my life and the car decided to reward me half way through my 3rd session and throughout the entire 4th session with a redline increase to 6750. I was using S mode, traction off and had the car screaming the whole day.....
Has anyone else ever experienced redline increase in their M113 equipped AMG or any other AMG after a period of extreme track racing? This was the third time I've tracked the car, have drag raced it on four occasions, take it to redline on a weekly basis and this has never happened before...

Well.. In 'C' mode the car won't shift at red-line. In 'S' mode it always should shift at 6700rpm with full throttle. 'M' mode will hold your gear to the rev limiter until you change yourself.

Your needle always goes that high? You've seen it go to 6700 before?Originally Posted by Richardmozis

In the past my tach needle had never gone past 6500 in S mode and in M mode would always hit the limiter with the needle right at 6500. Maybe the electronics wouldn't let me go there before as part of the Adaptive system, a.k.a I've been drivin like a granny.

Not a huge deal just curious to why the my car started to do something different.
When searching for info I found this for fun.

Went and did some redline testing and this is what I got with my car.
In M mode the car fells like it is going to shift at 6250 (must be a soft limiter) loses some power and then will just sit at 6700. I think M mode is great on the highway and with spirited driving but takes time to get the high end shifts right without hitting the limiter.
In S mode the car consistently started to shift at 6250 and shifted by the time the needle hit 6450/6500. When at the road track if I left the car in S mode and drove it real hard it would hang onto gears forever and need some manual input from time to time.
In conclusion my car did adapt differently the last time I was at the track. Eventually it would start its full power shift at 6500 and would shift right at 6700. Based on the instructors input I had the car at 9/10s, 10/10s during session 3 and my 4th session was a solo and I sure didn't let off.
Now If I can only find a way induce the car to shift this way at the drag strip....

Sure there is depending on the mods. It's a Redline, its supercharged. My Cobalt SS Turbo (same car basically, just the newer turbo engine) is tuned to 24 psi (about 300whp) and from a highway roll was dead even with my C55 with a Kleemann blower and headers. The C55 was a second faster in the 1/4 due to suspension and traction though.

It's possible, but I don't think it had any mods...I'm just more amused by the fact that the Redline guy thought it was a C55 when it was clearly something else (as mozi said a C230 kompressor). You can tell by his description of the car it was definitely not a C55.
But yes, you can mod pretty much anything to be fast.

I put up that link because I was amused by the 7 page deep debate on the subject.

I looked up the specs on the Ion Redline for my own knowledge, thought I would share. Pulled from cargurus.com:
2.0L I4
205 hp
200 tq
It doesn't say that it's supercharged there, but a Car & Driver article I read talks about it being supercharged, so I guess that it is?
