So I was driving home and my car wouldn't accelerate up a steep hill then there was an odd smell and the low coolant warning message, I limp home and open the hood to find the following:

Top cover with new hole above the SC clutch and logo blown out.

Side view shot

Please can someone tell me what this part is?

Close up of SC clutch showing the broken link(?) that's sticking out and caused the damage.

Overall front shot showing the damage

Please can you guys help:
1) Just how bad is it, 3, 4 or 5 $ figures bad?
2) Clearly I need the SC clutch and the grey box next to it replaced, any ideas what else might have to be replaced?
3) What's the grey box to the right of the SC clutch that got damaged called?
4) Can anyone recommend a good garage on the Bay Area (CA) Peninsular who could do this repair?

Thanks for your continuing support and wish me luck

This doesn't look that bad. It looks like you would need a new SC pulley, maybe a new pipe going to the EGRs, and a new rubber hose connecting the3 pipe to the EGR. The clutch itself can be sanded a bit to smooth it out at the point of impact. If you are somewhat handy, you should be able to do it all yourself. Just look of the SC pulley replacement DIY on the forum.

Could've been worse, I'm with Lenin just replace the SC pulley and the EGR pipes and the rubber hoses... that "silver box" is the engine oil cooler by the way

Wow, looks like it could have been worst. Looks like it needs a supercharger clutch and that "pipe" it's the secondary air injection pipe, not EGR.

Btw I don't see anything wrong with the oil cooler, is it leaking?
Any signs of coolant leaks?
Should also look into a new belt too, incase this one was damaged

Thanks, yes I think I got lucky when I opened the hood there was coolant everywhere, it was still dripping off the hood felt half an hour later so if that destroyed pipe doesn't carry coolant then something else I've not spotted must have been damaged.

Thanks! I think the part sticking out of the SC clutch is one of the springs that connect the two parts, if that's the EGR pipe then it would be carrying gases rather than coolant so I think I have more damage that I haven't yet found as there was coolant all over the engine when I opened the hood.

Thanks, maybe it also got damaged and is the source of the coolant that sprayed everywhere?

You are right. I don't know why I said EGR. it's a shut-off valve for the air pump.
But I disagree with you on the clutch. I have a hole in my clutch from a similar incident and the clutch works just fine. He should only need a SC pulley.

Check your water pump hose. When I had this happen to me, my water pump hose was cut. It initially looked like the water pump itself went but after closer inspection it turned out to be just the hose.

Found it, the coolant hose at the bottom of the oil cooler has a great big hole in it:

Just had a quote to fix the damage - does this seem reasonable?
SC Pulley - $1670
Other parts - $200
labor <= $1100
Seems high to me but I've nothing to compare it with

Look for a used pulley. Make a WTB post here and crossfireforum.org in the SRT6 section. Should be no more than $500. You should also consider getting a smaller 65mm SC pulley from Eurocharged.
Other parts for $200 may be OK. Depending on what is included.
Labor should not be more than 3 hours if you know what you are doing. I'm no mechanic and can do this in under 2 hours. At $100 an hour = $300.

It looks like only the spring on the pulley messed up, as is common. You can find an upgraded pulley for wayyyy cheaper than $1670. I know Eurocharged sells them for $500 on their website. Installation is an hour maximum. The other stuff shouldn't be too difficult to replace.

you'd need a new SC clutch. the pulley looks fine. the problem is getting the clutch off the supercharger, so you might even better off getting a used supercharger whole unit. I don't know what you did that caused that to fail but it looks like someone didn't put the SC pulley on properly, or maybe it's missing some shims.

you'd also need new air injection pipes obviously, which isnt that expensive.

if you want to keep costs low look for salvaged parts. it'll be easier to get a replacement supercharger unit to replace than trying to mess around with the clutch.
