Wrecked the C32

Was headed to DFW last night to drop my girlfriend off at the airport, the rainy weather brought out the the untrained drivers and nervous idiots. Traffic on the interstate came to a halt in front of me, and I got on the brakes to make sure I would stop in time so I didnt hit the car on front of me. About the time I stopped the car in front of me started to roll forward ( I had about a car length between us) and I was slammed into from behind. The car jumped forward and then came to a stop because I was still pressing the brake. I knew I had been hit but the reality of it set it in when I looked forward and saw one of the tail light covers from my C32 sitting on the road in front of me. Pulled off to the side, made sure my girlfriend was ok and got out to check on the other driver. Everyone was physically fine.
The C32 was the only thing damaged. Both tail lights missing covers, housings broken. Rear bumper cover torn in several places. Trunk lid was caved in and pushed up to the back window. Being dark, rainy and a black car it was hard to tell, but I think there is a wrinkle in the rear driver's quarter panel at the very least. The other vehicle was a Chevy Silverado, sitting up that high it just smacked right into the trunk area.

So now I have to wait and find out from insurance, but I am pretty sure the car will be totaled out. If not I will be highly surprised. That being said I am not 100% sure what I am going to do with it if it is totaled out. Being that I am in Texas for work at the moment and not even near my home sucks. I am strongly considering, if it is totaled, buying it back and parting it out. I will keep you guys informed of what happens.

Only picture I have at the moment. Not too much detail seen due to the poor lighting on a dark car.

Thanks guys. We are ok, just sore today. I agree, it was not how I saw 2015 starting out. Guess we will see what the adjuster has to say and go from there. I assume it will probably be Monday before I find anything out.

Thanks guys. It definitely did its job. Drove by the accident site yesterday and you can see where I was on the brakes and how far I slid after he hit me. Was able to go take some pics of the damage during the day.

The drivers here in DFW are a different breed. The guy that rear ended me from was NY. I will let you guys know for sure. I will have a possible time constraint when it comes to parting it out. I am out here in Fort Worth for work, the contract for this customer is over in mid Feb - first of March. It could be extended, but I will not know for sure until later on. So if I part it out I want to make it fast and get it stripped so that if the contract isnt extended I dont have to haul the car back to GA if I dont have to. If there is interest in it I dont have a issue parting it out though if it gets totaled and buy back is reasonable.

Andrew.

Looks almost exactly like mine... It will be totaled for sure. Hopefully the other driver has good insurance and won't drag the process out for you. I'd say to part the car out in that time frame you'll be listing the majority of the parts on ebay as there was limited interest when I was trying to part mine out on here.

The adjuster called yesterday and wanted it to go to the body shop and be torn down a little bit so they could get an idea of structural damage under the bumper etc. I wont know anything until Monday. I feel that it is totaled as well. I am strongly considering buying it back and parting it out. I have already had some interest in stuff off of it and plus it will be extra money towards a newer AMG.

New trunk, bumper, tail lights, body work to rear quarter panels...if structure is okay it may not be totaled. I'd make sure the adjusters check the rear suspension components thoroughly though. All those bushings surely took some shock from the impact. It's sad when an AMG has to go...

On the positive note, what are the prospects for a new AMG if it is totaled?

C230 Mulac, you are thinking like me. If they say it can be repaired I am going to have them take it to Mercedes and thoroughly inspect the rear suspension and drive train. They will be spending the money to make sure nothing will show up months down the road. I hate to see it totaled, but I think it will be the best. The resale value drops if its repaired with that amount of repair, I would think.

If totaled I will be getting another AMG. I have been highly impressed the car!
I will most likely save and do some shopping around for another one. I have already considered stepping up to either a C55, a E55 or a E63(w211 platform).

Those fricken lifted trucks, the damage would be less severe if he hit you in the bumper.

If they say it's repairable definitely insist on having it done at an MB-approved bodyshop.
They will check everything thoroughly.

If it's totaled, I can probably help tear down as well, on weekends.
Good luck

Update

Spoke with the body shop and the guy I spoke with told me that he recommended to the insurance company that my C32 was totaled. So currently waiting to hear back from the other guy's insurance company regarding settlement price for the car and I will find out the buy back price of her so that whats left can be put to good use on some other C32s.

Now the fun part starts.... what is my next AMG?

They have definitely caught my eye. Honestly I am torn between the E55 and the E63 (W211). I have seen a couple E55s for sale on the forums that I like. Touch decisions lol

If you can get by with a two seater I personally like the SLK55. I feel that with that small of a car it would be a champ with handling.

E55 is an awesome car too though, and crazy fast in a straight line. The 211 E63 are a lot harder to come by.

I really like all 3 of those cars. The E55 is such good value for money at the moment if you can find one in great condition and the aftermarket and modding potential is fantastic. This is why I don't have one. I bought a house so car modding is temporarily on hold hence the sensible reliable CLK.

The 211 E63 is my favorite, so refined, comfortable, amazing interior and wonderful power but they were a bit too expensive when I was looking, not so much to buy but definitely to repair if something went wrong.

I had a drive in a R171 SLK55 which was pretty awsome but it didn't feel much faster than the CLK which it should have and the traction was not so good being lighter. Having said that if they weren't so horrendously overpriced here I would have gone for it. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

C63 looks nice (haven't driven one) but I think it might be too loud and obnoxious for my liking anyway.
