Hole in your differential housing. Looks like quite a bit of corrosion. Is that where the drain plug was? Not common but unfortunately you will probably need a new housing.

something broke in there . something went through the rear cover,. don't drive the car if it did not go through the hole then it is still rolling around in there. If it gets caught in the ring gear, you will need complete diff. drop the diff open it see what broke ,, i have a center section if you need it.( you would drop the diff remove the center section with ring gear, put ring gear onnew center section, reinstall and find yourself a new rear cover and you are back on the road. jim
Sorry to see that, your car so rusty, it's sooooo risky to keep it like that, rust will eats everything constantly, better if you can give it some "Ziebart" protection..
X2, I agree that this is not an external impact (unless you backed over something into the diff cover??) Looks to me like it blew out something. Does the car still move???

No it is not where the plug is.. I did buy a another one and i will replace it asap..
No warranty Buyed a another housing.. Well here in Scandinavia the cars look like this after a few years.. 5 owners on this car and i think they didnt care so much.. :/
