in the latest (or last month im not sure) Motor Trend, they had details about the M5 vs. E55, M Roadster vs SLK32, M3 vs CLK55, and X5 vs ML55. BMW was a HAIR faster on all of the races except the SLK race, which won by a little bit, and if I remember right the M5 won by a bigger margin than anything.

I've seen a number of M3s in my area lately, I would say...once every 2 days. But I've yet to encounter a race with them, I guess we're both afraid to lose to each other. None of the M3s that are pulling by my side have the tendancy to go with me. I think if we're only going for 0-60, I'll lose because I've bigger/heavier wheels. Down the stretch, I think it'll be a dead heat. And I dont think I'll go a 0-60 with them because I still havent figured out how to launch a clean "wheel-spin-less" start with this powerful monster!!!!

actually, SOME wheelspin is required to get the best times from a standing start, however, I can only imagine your quest to tame that beast of yours and avoid incinerating your tires at every stoplight.

I thought they had the matchups all wrong... the M3 coupe vs. either hte CLK55 coupe OR the C32.... or hell, make it a 3-way between the E55, C32 and M5... that would have been interesting.

ML55/X5 was piontless, and the CLK55 cab/M3 'vert was also ill-fated... at least get the fast versions man!

the SLK/M Roadster was an interesting piece, but I'm not sure they were correct. I drive a Z3 and love it, but the chasis is just too flimsy for the S54 motor. manual/auto factions aside, the SLK is a more complete car (although I love the fact that the trunk space in a Z3 does not change when the top is up/down)

the E55/M5 was a great comparison (not well done though) as the cars have truly opposite strengths, and are both fast as hell. they are both also leaving us shortly for a newer rendition, so its interesting to see how they've aged.

I know what you mean. Everytime I turn off the ESP, I get at least 2-3 seconds of wheelspin. I wonder what it would be like to turn of ESP completely (Dyno Mode).

I am talking about a race between a C32 and an E46 M3, not from a magazine if anyone have seen or heard about a race, who won, from start, whos 1/4 mile is faster, and top speed, etc.

Why are you so curious to know who won in a race btw a C32 and a M3? Do you own one of the two cars or are you thinking of buying the "winner"?

I'm waiting to race a new M3 in my C32..... I've tried like 3 of em, and none of em wanted to run....

that story on the bimmer board sounds a little off.... most race stories that I have heard about have the C32 getting a steady pull on the M3....

Car's that I have raced and beaten so far are a mustang cobra, 3 Z28's, CLK55, and my old GS400.....

I also had a breif run-in with an M5...... from the short highway sprint we did, he wasn't pulling on me..... he seemed ultraparanoid that I might beat him, he would never hit it side by side with me..... he would always try to get a running start....

You boy racers need to chill.

I suggest giving your C 32s a rest and driving a Citroën 2 CV 6 or 1975 504 Diesel for a while. Now THAT would be a character-builder

I have read numerous posts here aswell as numerous other forums including BMW forums. I would say the C32 and M3 are pretty much matched up EXACTLY. In the posts, about half the time the C32 won and vice versa. Since the cars are so evenly matched, it all depends on the driver.

Motor Trend is one of the most notorious magazines for plugging BMW at every chance they get. As far as their matchups go, it is obvious that the M3 and CLK 55 are not on the same plateau. Also, the M5 is more evenly matched up with an S55 rather than an E55.

mercedes has done sucha job coming up with performance models of their expansive product line, there really is no match for some of their cars

s55.... s8 audi, maybe?
e55... m5 definately
c32... m3 coupe/covertable
slk32... m roadster
ml55... x5

mercedes really doesnt have any direct answer to the m coupe, and bmw have nothing to fire back at the cl55, clk55, s55, and the coming sl amg.

BMW makes some nice cars, and the 3,5, and 7 are near perfect in their execution, but mercedes offers a much more diversified product lineup... hell, in the market for a 2 door car, and you have a load of choices:

c230, clk, slk, sl, cl

and i like it that way

good post greg... I have to agree... although the whole M3/CLK or M3/C32 dilemna is pretty interesting... in a year or so the new 6 will be out and the new CLK will as well, then there will be a real matchup.

and the problem with streetracing is that driver error is SO magnified.. that is the nice thing about magazine tests, expecially comparison tests, same driver, same track, same weather...

here is what can happen on the street... just read it, its a great story. http://64.119.165.48/forum/showthrea...threadid=26808

dasMafia...absolutely.

i had a chipped 1.8t in college running 0-60 just under 7secs. i stoplight raced an e36 m3 (manual) with a passenger in my car and beat him twice.

each time the light turned green i checked to see what he was doing after i slotted it into second and sure enough has was just coming out of 1st. he really didn't know what he was doing, i guess. he should have spanked my *** on that dry tarmac.

nowadays i just mash the pedal.

i got my M3 a couple of months ago around december, boy has my opinion changed about the C32. Its a very nice car, but since i have the SMG on it i obviously have the driver advantage, since this car can change gears in .08 seconds... . i have only raced one C32, on route nine last month back hear in boston, and i won because the C32 chicken out at 95... its a 45 mph area with two lanes. But during the time he was seriously racing i one by pretty much one whole car. Dont know if its because of the SMG, doing better acceleration but it was definetly a night to remember.
